Yeah, I reckon we’d be more likely to see (or more to the point, hear) Michael McLaren promoted to the 8pm-midnight slot with Luke Grant moving to the weekday midnight-dawn shift.

Michael McLaren on Drive? Not a chance. Those comments on the Radio Today site look like they were posted by family and friends. The cume in midnight to dawn is so small that his profile is minimal.

Well I guess we have narrowed it down to 4 possibilities for 2GB Drive, Mark Levy, Michael McLaren, John Stanley and Chris Smith. My preference would be John Stanly on Drive and Michael McLaren evenings leaving Luke Grant on Weekday overnights and Clinton Maynard weekends. Just as long as we don’t have that clown in Melbourne in Sydney also.

Any chances that Ben might appear as a ‘contributor’ on the Today Show (during 2GB news headlines/ad breaks of course) and reunite with his bestie Karl Stefanovic? I can imagine that being a possible segment in the future (just like Ray Hadley was on Today and Alan Jones on Sunrise).

Jones used to do comments on Today many years ago as he was friends with the Packers.

Ah yes. Those ‘I’m Alan Jones’ comments were actually quite funny when Shaun Micallef took the piss out of it on Micallef Tonight.
That was until Nine pulled the plug because apparently Jones and Packer were outraged.

Anyone have any history as to why Jones’ Today editorial ended?
From memory, Jones’ editorial ended not long after Lisa Wilkinson joined Today.
An old article on the Monthly website highlighted it had been pretty polarising, even in the last Steve and Tracy days.

Actually I was referring to Shaun Micallef’s Micallef Tonight being axed by Nine. Apparently that was because Jones was angry with Micallef’s segment and alerted Packer who called the shots back in the day. Not sure if that was the official reason but wouldn’t surprise me if that factored into its axing.

Chris Smith has ruled himself out from being the new presenter of 2GB’s drive program. He told The Australian yesterday that:
"I’m very happy to leave my balance between 2GB and Sky as it is. I’m on a good wicket, and my kids need my attention now.”
This comes after Smith recently won full custody of his two teenages from his first marriage
