Nine Radio (Talk)

According to Paul he is on tomorrow and next weekend then he is off on his trip with George Moore and still claims to return at the end of the footy season. It is hard to imagine that he will turn up each weekend for a 15minute quiz slot with Chris Smith. They should beg George to return to weekend mornings and put Chris Smith back on weekday afternoons or somewhere else. Just why the CCT needs 5 hours plus is hard to understand as all they need to do is just call the games like Frank Hyde did.

It’s going to be interesting to see what effect George and Paul’s absence is having on the ratings. Can’t say I’ve tuned in since Chris Smith started on weekend mornings.

With all of the health issues Paul B. has had in recent times it wouldn’t be wise for him to be travelling OS with the Coronavirus threat spreading.

Just put George & Paul back on 2UE already.

It’s about the chit chat. Apparently the call of the game doesn’t rate as the chit chat. So Ray Hadley said once.

Listened to two parts of John and Paul on 2GB in the past couple of hours. During the investment and collectables segments it was mostly John and the expert with callers, while Paul said almost nothing.

BTW, the two segments are almost paid spots. Financial adviser Brett Stein has been advertising on 2GB and 2UE for years, while the collectables expert was asking people to call him on his mobile to sell him specific items - presumably so he can on-sell them for a profit.

Yeah I normally tune out during those segments. 2gb has too many talking lifestyle segments during the weeknights and the above two shows.

Yes, that’s exactly right. Years ago on 2UE on a Sunday morning at 4AM would you believe! two guys namely Ken Buxton and Mike Yandell would field calls for a full 30 minutes and they were in the studio at the time. At the end of their segment they would get a printout of all the callers and they would go for an early breakfast. After breakfast they would start ringing back all the calls that sounded interesting and calls they did not get to in the hope of making a killing. Rick Milne who has also been at it for years does exactly the same thing but he is on the phone from Melbourne or Brisbane where he resides and often gives out his mobile for the callers to call him. Most of the experts he refers to are his mates.

Alan Jones is broadcasting from South Sydney Juniors tomorrow morning. He has invited listeners to come down and see him. This needs to be canceled immediately.

Tuesday’s survey showed that 91% of his listeners are over the age of 90 and 6% are already dead. COVID-19 is a direct health threat at this outside broadcast.

I certainly won’t be going as I would be worried about the hygiene habits of the seniors all clambering for a $5 breakfast!

Agree, call it OFF

Perhaps Allan will get it … small mercies in an uncertain time.

Back in January, Jane Bunn tweeted she had been axed by 3AW from the weather spot on Ross and John.

She told the Herald Sun that she was shocked by the suddenness in the station’s decision to dump her, and she missed sharing the weather with listeners.

What a surprise Seven and the Herald Sun are still banging on about this.

It’s a paid slot, Jane. It’s not like you were chosen for your amazing forecasts. Move on.

From The Courier Mail:

Sydney radio’s $4 million talk show stars Alan Jones and Ray Hadley have been ordered into isolation from Monday to guard against coronavirus further impacting 2GB’s bottom line.

Jones, who currently has a cold, and Hadley will broadcast from private studios set up at their rural properties in Fitzroy Falls and Dural to ensure they don’t come into contact with any production and administration staff at 2GB’s Pyrmont studios who may have contracted COVID-19.

2GB’s drive host Ben Fordham, meanwhile, will broadcast his radio show from Melbourne’s 3AW studios from Monday.

Fordham will already be in Melbourne to host the latest series of Australian Ninja Warrior, which goes back into production for Nine, next week — although possibly without a live studio audience.

Nights presenter John Stanley will also broadcast his radio show from a home-based studio — leaving only afternoons host, Deb Knight, to present from 2GB’s Pyrmont HQ.

It was interesting how Chris Smith was playing down the problem (Corona virus) in his morning show… Obviously GB is taking it seriously.

I guess Macquarie Sports Radio shutting down was perfect timing considering there is about to be zero sport being played worldwide for the next few months.

Looks like another casualty of Nine’s takeover is Phil Rothfield’s segment on the 2GB Continous Call Team. Replaced by Danny Weidler.

Rothfield has a weekly spot on big sports breakfast every Monday morning.

A dodgy old reporter with ‘colourful’ connections; and Nine’s worst reporter. 2GB should have found someone else.

I do miss George and Paul. Hope they can reunite soon given Paul is getting on a bit .

On Saturday Chris was telling his listeners “we should all just get the virus and be done with it”. I was shocked.

He has no empathy for the elderly. Maybe he just wants that breakfast or morning shift.

At least if 2GB bans larger gatherings, like ratings parties, it should keep Chris out of trouble. Now there’s a man who should have been social isolating a lot more over the last decade.
