Nine Radio (Talk)

And Smith has been copying Jones for years.

WOW! Mark is in his 30s?

He certainly sounds like a very angry boomer. Way too much hate for someone so young.

At the very minimum, Iā€™m expecting MSR to eventually recieve a rebrand within the next 6-12 months but I wouldnā€™t entirely rule out the possibility of the station(s) being sold or perhaps even going off the air entirely.

Quite understandably so.

As we know all too well, 2GB & 3AW are particularly reliant on aging talent during the key breakfast/morning timeslots. Do they have a decent succession plan in place for when Jones, Hadley, Ross & John + Mitchell inevitably call it a career? If not, they need to start working on one now!

That would be pointless and detrimental to Nine as ACMA would no doubt auction off the licences with the government getting the money instead of Nine.

No Sign of MacQuarie Sports Radio Anywhere or NTS, time for Nine to sell the Lower Rated 882 (Brisbane), 954 (Sydney) and 1278 (Melbourne) Frequencies.

The term ā€œflipping a houseā€ refers to buying a property and adding value and then selling it for a capital gain.

Not exactly what Macquarie Radio achieved with 2UE, 4BH and Magic. They gained control of the licences in 2015 and in a five year period reduced audience shares for each station to under 1% (with the former Magic now on 0.4%).

Instead of flipping the stations - all three have been ā€œfloppedā€

And to settle once and for all the business case that ā€œthe destruction of 2UE was to benefit 2GBā€ - in the last survey of 2014 2GB had a 12.1% share. This is the exact same share they have today.

That says it all.

Yes, me linking to a Crocmedia press release published on SENā€™s website about a 3AW show is weird. However, thatā€™s Crocmedia for you

That certainly is Crocmedia for you. The article also plugs departing host Dwayne Russellā€™s new show on SEN so that might be why itā€™s on the SEN website.

Plus Iā€™m sure Hutchy doesnā€™t care whether you are listening to SEN or 3AW at 6pm, as long as itā€™s a Crocmedia produced show you are listening to then heā€™ll be happy.

Itā€™s all money to Craig.

Whether thatā€™s wise long term, interesting to see.

With Darren James hosting 3AW afternoons this week, Craig Willis will take the helm on Weekend Breakfast this Saturday and Sunday.

From next Monday morning, a new national overnights program will be introduced across the Nine Radio stations (2GB, 3AW, 4BC) & relay stations, to be presented by Michael McLaren, and will air at 12-5:30am weekdays.

Unfortunately had to come. The Sydney and Melbourne overnight audiences are vastly different. Melbourne can say goodbye to cheerios to each other, prayers and so on and hopefully that utterly appalling caller from Nhil.

Agreed. While itā€™s sad that 3AW are losing their weekday overnight program, if anything Iā€™m actually surprised their local show lasted this long.

Granted that 2GB was still running local overnight programming for Sydney until fairly recently (2016?), but at the same time 2UE had been networking/syndicating ā€œNew Day Australiaā€ for many years. The experience Melbourne radio listeners are about to get on a regular basis is the same one commercial talkback listeners in Brisbane, Canberra and a whole heap of regional markets have gotten used to over many years!

I canā€™t see how it would work in Melbourne isnā€™t he a right winger as well? Wonā€™t gel well with the regular style.
