The actor Peter Sumner? Wow, didn’t know that.
Neil Mitchell has cut short his holidays to return to 3AW this morning.
Wow all the problems we have will be solved now Neil’s back! Do they or he think he’s that important? If I need news on the dreadful bushfires etc. I listen to the ABC!
On the up-side, at least he must be getting along with new Nine management for him to be pro-active enough to want to work harder in 2020.
Macquarie using Nine News theme for radio bulletins has finally been picked up by Radioinfo.
Great that he returned. He would’ve only been down at Flinders and likely itching to return.
During the show and continuing now, there’s mention of being local at night tonight.
Pat Panetta has been doing weeknight middawns, already quite a Melbourne skewed network show there.
It’s not the first time Neil has cut holidays short to cover big stories.
It was a good show, compelling content. I’m sure the ABC would’ve done well in their own way at 774, if they’re running local shifts that is.
Yep Justin Smith will be on tonight from 7pm.
3aw drive running till 7pm tonight.
AW’s schedule today is how radio should be.
Of course, the non Nine owned Five AA is already local around the clock.
BC has not had the same fortune, simply not the staff employed between Aug - Dec 2019 to cover the very serious fires there.
Hopefully 9 will set up procedures for broadcasting from their Mt Coot-tha newsroom.
Is there a shoutcast page to view the 3AW streaming stats today? I’d imagine they’d be quite significant on such a day.
Hovering around the 750 mark from what I can see; that won’t count the non-Shoutcast streams though
The cross-pollination of Nine programming across their media assets is really getting annoying. It’s bad enough they plaster Nine logos and skew content to promote programming and personalities in the SMH. Now we have reporters dropping mentions of Karl and Ally on Today during interviews about the fires with John Stanley on Breakfast radio.
More to the point, Red was hopelessly out of his depth for serious news.
We did discuss this, however I’m surprised at the lack of media coverage on the matter:

Seems MRN didn’t have basic admin skills to ensure correct payment.
Nine really bought a mess from MRN, the price should’ve been lower. It’s akin to buying a car and spending thousands more to fix a long list of problems.
Probably because I’m guessing a relatively small number of people are impacted (compared to the usual cases that get media attention) and there’s little to be gained by crucifying the new management who are proactively fixing the mess they inherited.
About to get shitcanned I reckon
Sell to EON.
I’m not sure if it’d be a good or bad thing for EON to take the Macquarie Sports Radio stations off Nine’s hands. I mean it’d likely result in 954AM Sydney, 1278 Melbourne and 882 Brisbane receiving a much needed relaunch, but would that result in 2CH taking on more networked content and less local stuff?
Could Pacific Star, Crocmedia or whatever they’re calling the parent company that owns SEN these days be another contender? Mind you for legal reasons the Melbourne station would have to go to someone else, but surely they’d prefer to have high powered on-band stations (not to mention space on DAB+) in Sydney & Brisbane for SEN rather than having to deal with off-band narrowcast frequencies if/when it comes time to expand in those two major markets?
Nine will surely flip them to music? Cheap and would rate a lot higher
Nah, surely sell 882 and 954 to PNW/Crocmedia whose niche is sport and be done with it. No point Nine competing with them 24/7.
Then do something else with 1278 in Melbourne… no idea what though.
