Nine Radio (Talk)

I reckon its a trial run. No one would want to potentially cause long term damage to the WWOS brand by associating with a current dud like MSR. I suspect that if it works, they will “transition” the brand to MSR if they can get the financials to stack up (which I am extremely dubious about…)

Wide World of Sports coming to 2GB and 4BC in 2020

Macquarie Media will launch a dedicated sports show, Wide World of Sports, on 2GB and 4BC in 2020, focused on covering the latest events in the sporting world four nights a week.

Wide World of Sports will go to air 6.00-7.00pm Monday to Thursday, hosted by broadcaster Mark Levy. It will draw on the broad suite of talent from Nine’s Wide World of Sports to provide the latest news and commentary across the sports that Aussies love.

“Wide World of Sports is an iconic Australian brand and we are thrilled to bring it to radio with a dedicated daily sports program,” said Greg Byrnes, Macquarie’s Head of Content. “It’s great to have a sports fanatic like Mark Levy in the chair hosting. He’ll be able to draw on the full gamut of Nine’s talent for sports like rugby league, tennis, cricket, netball and so many more to cover the latest happenings and drive the daily agenda across the games and codes that matter to Sydney and Brisbane.”

Levy is an accomplished broadcaster who has spent over a decade with Macquarie in various roles, including lead sports newsreader, host of The Continuous Call Team, and breakfast co-host of Macquarie Sports Radio.

“Sport is a big part of the fabric of being an everyday Australian and this show will give people the opportunity to voice their opinion on the big sporting issues of the day,” said Levy. “It will speak to the biggest names in Australian sport and give Sydneysiders and Brisbaneites what they need to know about the games they love.”

Wide World of Sports will also represent a unique new marketing platform for advertisers, according to Macquarie’s Managing Director, Tom Malone.

He said: “This extension of the Wide World of Sports brand will give marketers another platform to extend their reach and message so they can speak to consumers through WWOS on television, digital, social and now radio.”

So that rules out Levy returning to MSR breakfast.

What a great contribution to 2019, the wider world (well, the two in the phonebox who cared) learnt about burner accounts for social media from Marky.

Good, can the entire station.

Steve Price’s exit

So Steve was offered nights instead of arvos in 2020.

Does that mean John Stanley again viewed as expendable? Is this the real story that again, John was to take the fall?

Or Tom knew offering Price his old job would see him walk?

Immediately Nine is making moves to improve the gender imbalance, I presume we might see Livinia or even Dee Dee take afternoons on AW

Grubby and Dee Dee are a great combo, would be a shame to break them up.

I presumed Grubby wasn’t interested in full time work anymore.

On a similar thread, it would be good to see Kate Stevenson take over from John Burns on the breakfast program from mid-year.

She’s a great broadcaster and has an excellent rapport with Ross.

Ok, didn’t know that, if true, understandable, Dee Dee alone then.

Agree, ‘A Moveable Feast’ has been a great introduction to the audience.

If Nine are on the path of more females in talk radio, Kate would be a perfect addition, but more for her talent rather than gender. She understands the winning formula that sees them reach 20% of the audience.

The respect the 3AW breakfast team has for each other, both on air talent and production staff, is clearly evident when you listen to that show. They seem to have so much fun and enjoy working together. Such a stark contrast to how the likes of Jones, Laws and Hadley portray themselves as all knowing and so far above the people who work for them on their shows. I’d hate for 3AW to ruin the dynamic by introducing a big name star into the mix instead of utilising the talent who knows the audience and has an established rapport with the current team.

Kate and Steve Quartermaine are a very listenable alternative to Ross and John. Tony Jones on the other hand is an instant turn off. I wish they’d use Heidi Murphy as Mitchell’s primary fill in presenter.

Agree.
Heidi is also a producer in the program so presumably she’s on leave which is why TJ is on (and Red) with her taking the new year half of Neils Leave

4BC Listeners have phoned, they want their Local Drive Show back?

They phoned you?

Laws has nothing but respect for the ‘Mother Superior’, she’s the driver of the show as he often mentions.

There’s not many, so @TheStyles83 could answer every call.

I haven’t listened to him for years but was thinking of how he used to refer to his producers as “hand maidens”. Is he more enlightened these days?
