Denis Walter is today broadcasting his 3AW afternoon show live from Kununurra in the Kimberley region of WA, as part of a tourism promotion campaign. Virgin Australia will commence direct flights from Melbourne to Kununurra between May and August 2020, departing Melbourne on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and departing Kununurra on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. I have heard Kimberley tourism ads voiced by 3AW personalities a couple of times this week.
George Moore is leaving 2gb at the end of the year. He did not like the terms of the new contract.
More cost cutting, it seems. Strange to alienate one of their top rating stars.
Wonder if more networking is incoming with Grubby and Dee Dee or something?
I thought Grubby and Dee Dee are already networking into Brisbane on weekends? They certainly did that last summer.
They’re getting 2GBs Weekend Edition
They already tried Grubby and Dee Dee in Sydney a few years ago. Lasted about 2 weeks.
They killed 2UE, now they seem intent on killing 2GB. How stupid can management get at that place? Any word on what’s happening with Paul B Kidd? He has become increasingly irrelevant to the show so I assume he’ll be ditched. George was the true star.
It seems that the salaries of Alan and Ray are leading to cost cutting in other areas of the 2GB budget. When Singleton owned 2GB is was more of a family business. Nine view it as a cost centre.
No one likes working at a business where the coffee is changed from Moccona to International Roast and they introduce passwords for the Xerox machine.
George Moore did stress that the financial offer made was fair but there were other terms they couldn’t agree on. He is known to play hard ball and has threatened to walk away in the past when management has attempted to force terms he doesn’t agree with. Looks like they called his bluff this time.
Paul B. Kidd will be out. They may keep him around as a commentator on crime but I couldn’t see him paired with anyone else. He sounds a bit doddery at times and the shows he has been paired with someone else during Moore’s absences have been painful to listen to.
Management will use this as an opportunity to “diversify” the line up and skew younger. Just a pity it is at the expense of one of their more fair minded and less abrasive broadcasters. It was the only shift I regularly listened to on 2GB.
Same here. I have some hope (maybe false hope) he will show up on 2sm but I doubt it unfortunately. 2ch might be lower on the list.
It was the terms is the reason he quits. Probably he would not allowed to go to another station for a period of time, like John Laws had with 2ue (was the reason he could not agree).
The George and Moore show has great guests and very well researched. Other shows I feel like have too many ads disguised as editorials.
George & Paul on 2SM Weekends would be great. A shame it’ll never eventuate.
On 2UE as they were in the same legacy network?
Agree, cost cutting the only reason. This is one of the final decisions that Adam Lang and the MRN board make hopefully. Will NEC make change? We’ll see. They may disappoint us. The last quarter century or so of radio has been full of disappointments across the commercial and ABC sectors.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the weekend edition slots into their place year round
George Moore has been planning his retirement for some time and has expressed his desire to Travel. Maybe that he is going to do just that but it will be interesting if 2GB really keeps him on air until the end of the year. He certainly will be missed and I really do hope he pops up somewhere.
If a Leslie William Pridmore pops up somewhere it will be George Moore using his real name.
His old ABN that he cancelled in 2015:

Thanks for this level of detail again @littlegezzybear.
Mediaspy within the ‘Radio, Print and Online’ sub-forum is the best informed discussion going. The comment trails on industry websites and the ‘industry’ Facebook pages have scant detail compared to our discussion.
You know a lot more than me!
I have never listened to the George and Paul show as I live in Melbourne but back in the late 60’s early 70’s when I lived in Sydney I worked with his wife. I believe he was on 2SM at that time. I think he may have at times worked as Les Pridmore, his real name.
There will be sure to be more changes once 9 fully take control. They’ll probably put new management in as well. There’s sure to be more cross promotion with tv, publishing and stuff like Domain etc.
Not sure if Jones and Hadley will be happy to speak to any journalist from the publishing division.
