MacSport is actually a better name than Macquarie Sports Radio. Hopefully it’ll stick and start being used on air.
That’s exactly why it would fail…
Seemed to be a combined b’fast with John, Beau and Tony on air from 5 - 7, not listening now.
Just before 6, the difference could not be more stark, both this station and @4TAB-1008kHz were talking about the golf. John, Beau and Tony focussed on goofy chatter about the previous winner ending up second last on one hole, 4TAB had a comprehensive, serious coverage of the full field and forecast of today’s play with a sprinkling of humour of the previous winners’ bad day at the office.
The difference between good and bad sports radio is stark.
Cranymedia I like John, Beau & Tony they are great. I will also like Tony Leonard, Tony Shaw & Jimmy Bartel. I hope Red Symons is signed to be Tony Leonard, Tony Shaw & Tony Bartel’s Executive Producer as Red is current not on Radio in any way, shape or form after he was sacked by ABC Radio Melbourne Management last year. i emaled Clintion Maynad recimmendnding ti MacQuarue Mediua Management to do this saying thatb they sign Red Symons ti MacQuaeu Sports Radio 1278 as Executive Producer of Tony Leonard, Tony Shaw & Jimmy Bartel he will brung listeners wit him to MacQuarie Sports Radio 1278 from ABC Radio Melbourne & some Melbourne based FM listeners.
I don’t think Red would work in an off-air capacity. He’s probably best suited to a format like 3AW weekends, if anything.
3AW weekends are already filled MacQaurie Sports Radio could do with Red working alongside Tim Webster on weekend evenings because you have two people on most of the other slots apArt from weekend evenings with Tim Webster & nights with JuLIan King. hope my logic is seen
Could be good as a fill in on Nightline (bring it back to 8PM), or Breakfast.
Red was not sacked, instead he was offered another role but declined stating that he wanted a break.
I don’t think someone in a professional capacity would respond to your email, sorry.
How About Red On Breakfast on MacQuarie Sports Radio as a fill in when Tony is on hplidays brung him ti MacQuarue sports radio
Did you ever listen to Red? Has a certain ambivalence towards sport.
ONCE OR TWICE FOR MOMENTS
Do you honestly think he’d be suited to sports radio?
And he certainly wouldn’t take any role (such as being a producer, which he isn’t) that doesn’t involve him being in the limelight.
He’s not suited to a sports station. Or for that matter commercial radio.
I enjoy talking sport on 2sm. Thats enough sports fix for the day during the week. They get plenty of calls and they make the show to some extent. All the regulars over the years. The banter is good but not over the top. I prefer it to the Continuous call team. (Similar to ABC Grandstand, the banter is great there too for the rugby league show).
Then I listen to ABC Grandstand on the weekend. I like how they go to the grounds to call the game. Though when grandstand does “just sports” I don’t find it as interesting and tune out.
I don’t mind the cricket coverage on NTS. I was closely listen to them during the cricket season.
Its mostly personal preference. I tried to listen to the new station, not really interesting yet. I like David Morrow and John Stanley and others on the station… Though I prefer David Morrow show when he was on the ABC. I think the way the content is structured and the “flow” is important. It seems the ABC allows for a more creative flair like the Red light game, Coaches corner, the corner shop etc. Andrew Moore shines a lot more on the ABC than when he was on GB (in my opinion). The ratings prove me wrong as 2GB does rate better than the ABC. It again comes to a personal view.
I think Talking technology there was good banter between Trevor and Nick Bennett. I think its like school any topic can be boring. Technology can boring. But if there is some chemistry and its interesting people will listen. Even non-sports people do listen to 2UE (when I listened to talking league in the old days and lost the rights to GB) if they like the people running the show. Thats when you get success.
Tried an experiment during the arvo show, I called in to their ‘open line’.
It’s closed.
Finally I was answered, very young, inexperienced prog producer. I made sure my reason for calling value added well to their topic for it to be put to air. After taking my details, he said he’d call me back, I asked a few more questions, they’re trying to limit talkback contributions whilst the prog teams get used to the format.
Give me a break!
Either you make a good first impression or you don’t bother.
These are experienced broadcasters yet Lang and his subordinates have decided they can’t handle callers or at least, to a minimum.
This is the same way 4BC was knobbled and 6PR has suffered the same misdirection, don’t allow talkback, just talk amongst yourselves.
So this influences how you present content, it becomes sport news rather than sport discussion and opening that discussion to callers.
Well done again MRN, least they’re consistent with their lack of skill.
John Brennan (father of talkback in Aus) must be listening on feeling quite torn that whilst no one so far will rival his skill, these micromanagers are killing the concept of the format, giving it a bad name.
That’s ridiculous. Good callers add value to the program, essentially creating their own content and reducing the pressure on the announcers to fill the whole time with their own content. If anything, I’d be worried that not taking too many callers in the early stages will create a culture where the announcers don’t value the input of callers.
What topic was it may I ask?
Exactly. This is what Lang and micromanagers have their DNA all over 4BC, 2GB, 6PR and now this ‘network’
Wanderers, they solicited for callers.
