Nine Radio (Music)

Listening to TL too this afternoon. It’s quite sad with announcers reminding listeners of it being their final shows. Callers even saying it’s a poor decision by management. Mind you, On The Money only received two callers 4-5pm. One of which was a regular caller.

There are also mentions of MSR in every ad break.

Plus a lot more sporting ads appearing including one for a Vegas gambling app. One must assume they thought it was commencing April 1.

@Jason_Andrew_Toppin He doesn’t have a ‘Fillin’. There’s been a different person every time.

John Stanley will stay with the sports format tomorrow as will Clinton Maynard on the Weekends in Sydney in Melbourne Craig Willis will do weekends. who will do the Sydney & Brisbane Drive programs on April 16th? David Schawzr and Mark Aleen will be doing the Melbourne Drive Program.

All sounds very expensive. I look forward to its failure.

I am looking forward to it succeeding

The new sports show may take listeners from the Big Sports Breakfast on 2ky those who can’t stand listening to horse racing like me, I don’t consider horse racing a sport.

Failing in Sydney which it will without Rugby League games and Melbourne already with a Sports Station there will be little point, dead air would rate better.

Someone (not me, too many typos) spent a lot of time writing this comment for Radioinfo:

MACQUARIE RADIO: A RUDDERLESS SHIP

It’s interesting really to look at the history of a corporate media network, a publicly listed company and wonder how it is able to get away with failure after failure and go almost unquestioned.

MOD EDIT: full comment available on Radio Info.

Listening to 1278 now and the AM modulation sounds really bad. I can get better on any other two way radio.

Ads still seem to be skewed at the oldies group and it just has a general horrible feel. The host asking for a sting is the most cringiest thing I have ever heard.

Also that reminds me, my scanner has more exciting stuff and probably rates better…

They have deliberately restricted the audio response on 1278 to 5kHz for a long time now. Pathetic.

Sounds worse now. 3AW is the same, I think 3MP is the only one without the restriction.

Radioinfo reporting the station’s lineup from tomorrow. Local breakfast for Melbourne, shared output for Sydney and Brisbane:

Drive: David Schwartz & Mark Allen
Evenings: Julian King
Weekend Mornings: Bill Woods & Brigitte Duclos
Weekend Afternoons: Craig Willis & Clinton Maynard

EDIT: “The new Melbourne breakfast and drive shows will be heard on Macquarie Sports Radio straight after the Commonwealth Games, from Monday 16 April.”

radioinfo stating that “Macquarie Sports Radio has also secured exclusive broadcast rights to live English Premier League matches” from talkSPORT. EON made a similar claim that they had exclusive rights, but the claim was quickly found out to be a lie when ABC Radio, SBS Radio and various community radio stations continued to broadcast the BBC coverage of the EPL.

Anybody else think the MSR logo looks like the Setanta Sports logo?

Good Lineup

oh!..such excitement!..I can’t wait!
Surely a 6 month trial is far too long, I would go along with 3 months but surely they will realise the format is dud by the end of May.

First time I had seen the engine room of TL on camera. Two bored looking girls and an old bald headed man reading the newspaper who I presume is Peter Switzer.

The SSL certificate used by the MRN websites has been updated today to include the domain name for the MSR website - it looks like it will be at http://www.sportsradio.com.au

It is currently showing a 404 error page. The other domain names previously mentioned as having been registered (eg. macquariesportsradio.com.au) aren’t pointing anywhere, so it looks like they won’t be used and are just protecting the brand.

But with a touch of the MTR1377 call out (I think that’s what it called when the logo is made to look like a comic book with someone speaking), which surprises me as a choice. Most people don’t like to revisit their failures…

Anyway, hopefully third time lucky for Macquarie in its launching of new Melbourne radio stations. In part, success will depend on how much promotion they will undertake - ie true cash spend. Let’s see.

Interesting to note that 4BH is pretty much a full time simulcast of Sydney - a way to control expenditure (because sports formats can’t be cheap), but at the significant cost of discouraging a local audience that will want (quite understandably) a focus on the Broncos, Bullets, Roar and Reds. On the plus side, there is unlikely to be cannibalisation from 4BC due its massive local content!
