Nine Radio (Music)

Not seeing Nigel Ross on Magic’s website. Is he no longer there?

No announcers after 7 pm.

Dom Rinaldo finished up last night on Sunday Night 70s.

4BH have axed the 5pm top 10 countdown.

Geez… I had heard they were pulling back on casuals.

No changes to 3MP’s website, but today’s programming is very light on. No Ferg - Julie Strini hosting 6am-12pm and Kylie Stevenson 12-6pm.

Ferg has been off with illness.

What really? Since when?

As a result of the above post, looking at their Listnr pages, 2UE, Magic 1278 & 4BH are now running the same log.

That’s not a bad idea. I quite like the Magic log.

Radio should be a local medium and it needs to have local presenters not voice tracked from somewhere else. The music log is less important. If I was running the station there would be local based presenters on each station until midnight. It’s a point of difference between the stations and others and why people would choose 2UE for example over playing randomised music from Spotify. In my opinion it should have been that way since Ace took over Nine’s music stations operations.

that’s going to be expensive for barely a return on its investment

Not necessarily it should be seen as an investment if the BoG stations can do it in larger centres like, Newcastle, Tamworth, Lismore, Grafton so can 2UE, 4BH etc that broadcast to a larger audience. It’s a point of difference. No other stations other than 2GB are local in Sydney anymore for the full period from breakfast to 6pm and beyond not even the old WSFM was. But I was managing the network it would not need to make money obviously better if it did, I’d make my real money elsewhere radio would just be for me to play around with if I had the money.

presenters don’t have to be local. they need to be relevant

Look at smooth. presenters are across the network, but the voice tracking is relevant as to where its played. whether it’s Brisbane talking about today’s rain or the congestion on the m1, 99.999% don’t care where it comes from. it feels local.

Smooth should have local presenters no excuse they probably make more money than Nova nowadays. They may be more consistently number one FM in Sydney if they were local outside of Breakfast.

I am tipping ACE like most commercial radio operators doesn’t have that luxury

It depends how much profit you need/want to make I find it hard to believe that the Nine Music stations would not make money with station having their own presenters 6am to midnight and if they can’t there is something wrong. Sure we don’t know this for sure but I would be sure that NewFM would be making at least some profit being local for the vast majority of the time between 6am and 6pm so I don’t by that argument. Stations need to contribute back to the industry and only being local at Breakfast is not contributing adequately.

Since today, now replaced by the ‘‘5pm music marathon.’’

Same announcers, same music, same everything.

I think they’ve been doing that for a while. Cathy Jubb: Sydney breakfast, Brisbane afternoons. Ferg Melbourne breakfast, Sydney nights. Jamie Rowe, Melbourne breakfast, Brisbane nights.

Today starts the Magic Classic Hits network in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane

ACE should simply rebrand 2ue and 4bh as magic if they going to contitune using the same music log on 3 stations

I don’t mind but it was messy when they did it for 2ch. It’s probably best to keep heritage branding , I don’t think 2WS going gold has been a runaway success either.

What do you mean they? ACE was not running 2ch mind you

No they should not.

4BH and 2UE are the successful stations in the network. Why risk them for a Melbourne brand that is meaningless outside of Melbourne. They tried it before with Magic 882 on Brisbane - it didn’t go well
