Where was he working at most recently? Wasn’t he voicetracking for one of the Super Radio Network music stations?

It looks like Ace has givin Magic 1278 website bit of facelift with a new logo by the looks of things

Looks way better, 2UE needs to update to it.

That logo is much better. The version with the embedded frequency is also really good - Magic Gig Guide - Magic 1278 - this will do well on outdoor advertising, which was a real weak point of the previous logo.

I think they should do 4BH in that style given the music, with a bit of marooning up that purple.

An interesting choice of colours. I can see why they’ve changed it… the previous rectangle logo didn’t say much. Mind you, I don’t feel the newer “coffee cup mark” round logo says much either. Why not go with a guitar, or jukebox, or something that better represents “classic hits”?

Still, it’s a lot better than the Capital Forever Classic and SRN newer logos we’ve been seeing.

I too hope (and would like) to see this new logo rolled out across 2UE and 4BH as well, to bring the in line with the ACE metro classic hits network, leaving 3MP with its own identity.

I thought it was more of a vinyl loom

ACE should create a Magic Classic Hits network between Melbourne,. Sydney and Brisbane.

Magic 1278 Melbourne
Magic 954 Sydney
Magic 1116 Brisbane

With the same look and music

It has already been done before. But with Magic 2CH 1170, not 2UE.

That was not done under ACE mind you

If I was Ace I would move Sunday Morning 60’s from 3mp to Magic 1278 and get Gavin Miller to host it across Magic 1278, Magic 954 and Magic 1116 for example

There is 2 versions of Sunday Morning 60’s airing which is I find strange

in Melbourne and Sydney (3mp, 2ue) hosted by Gareth McCray
and in Brisbane (4bh) hosted by Gavin Miller

Why is a easy music station (3mp) being networked to a classic Hits station (2ue) for? That does not make any sense to me

Assume Nine own the Magic name and might insist on keeping the 2UE branding.

ACE do seem to be pushing the greatest hit format harder now though.

I’m pretty sure Brisbane prefers the heritage 4BH brand. They tried Magic 882 before, it wasn’t well received. I can’t see them wanting to risk their most successful station.

Similarly, 2CH never fully transitioned to Magic1170. They only did it for/during networked programming.

I don’t think the Magic brand means much outside of Melbourne. Plus, there is too much heritage with 2UE (celebrating 100 years), and 4BH now following 4KQ’s demise.

Because 2UE is a more easy listening format than a Magic Classic Hits format.

That would just be networking for the sake of it. 4BH already does very well in Brisbane and is their best performing station. 2UE also isn’t doing too bad. Magic on the other hand is one of the worst performing commercial stations in the country. The Magic brand has next to no value in Melbourne where its been used for the last 30+ years, so there’s no value that it can add to any other station.

Agreed. What’s the point of networking the brand when you can keep it local and have the same announcers voicetrack local breaks to better appeal to the audience for the same cost?

What is the benefit to the listener or the product with a networked name like Magic, as opposed to 2UE and 4BH.

Was DXing the other night

“Just listen to what these 3MP listeners have to say… ‘Oh it’s my favourite station’ ‘I never listen to anything else’ ‘I always put it on’… If you like the sound of that…”

Then managed to pick up 2UE… five mins later

“Just listen to what these 2UE listeners have to say… ‘Oh it’s my favourite station’ ‘I never listen to anything else’ ‘I always put it on’… If you like the sound of that…”

That new Magic logo is grrat, much better than the old one which was weirdly shaped and hard to read. Hopefully they update it in RadioApp soon.

I’ve noticed tonight that the 4BH news bulletins have started with the current temperature in Melbourne. We know Nine News bulletins at night are shared across multiple cities, but including the Melbourne temperature at the start of the bulletin that’s broadcasting to other states isn’t a good look. I assume the same thing is happening on 4BC since 4BH/4BC normally share the news feed.

Update: This happened for the 7pm and 8pm bulletin, but was fixed for the 9pm bulletin. Soo either they read this forum or it was co-incidentally fixed :joy:
