Nine Radio (Music)

Let’s not forget, 4BH isn’t a new brand. I’m sure a lot of the 60+ market probably already know that 4BH plays mainly older music - and once 4KQ wraps up, they’ll likely already have 1116AM on their presets.

Lets hope so. It would be good to see a station come * ratings to near number one on the AM band.

In the most recent ratings survey, 4BH scored 2.2%, up 0.3 from the previous survey.

Problem is the last time many would have listened to music on 4BH it was on 882.

Then 882 got trashed by Talking Lifestyle and Sports. So they moved to 4KQ.

I maintain that the vast majority of people;

A. Don’t know 4BH is even back
B. Don’t know it’s on 1116

1116 has been associated with talk for many decades.

Hence a marketing campaign is needed.

4BH had a rough time between 2014 and 2020, the rot set in when it became Magic 882.

Yep that’s when it all started.

After such a long time in the wilderness it won’t be easy to bring it back.

This is where the affiliation with the Nine Network would pay off. Heaps of advertising on QTQ telling people that your new home of classic hits is 4BH 1116 AM. Start the campaign just before 4KQ flips to sports.

That’s if free or discounted advertising is included in the lease agreement that Ace has with Nine. Otherwise Ace would still have to cough up dollars to advertise, even on QTQ.

Would ace rebrand 4bh as Magic 1116 when 4bh fully goes Classic hits? 10 songs in a row here we come on Brisbane home of Classic Hits Magic 1116

Noooooo! Magic was an epic fail when they tried it before on 882. It kind of defeats the purpose of leveraging the heritage brand.

This afternoon my DAB in the car had changed from Easy Music 4BH to Classic Hits 4BH. I still think they need to find a middle ground between the two playlists to maximize their appeal, even if it is branded Classic Hits.

Maybe Easy Classics what 2ch used to use before going classic hits

4BH really need to fix their DAB+ sound. Despite the adequate bitrate of 72 kbit/s the sound is very hollow and hard to listen to for any length of time. Stations with far fewer bits sound better. It’s like the audio is optimised for AM - no base and enhanced higher frequencies.

Great to see ACE mining their listeners for detailed research on music selection. Just finished my 2UE Easy Music Panel online survey where they fired about 400 song snippets at me for individual ratings on each track. Good stuff ACE !!

Sounds like they should have given you a gift card for your efforts.

Well there was a carrot …

""Select your favourite songs and win $1000 cash!
We thought we’d reach out to say hi and let you know we have a very special survey we would like to invite you to take part in, and get your feedback on the music we play!

This one is a bit longer than usual, with 5 different parts to get through, but please remember the more parts you complete the higher your chances are of winning the prize - a whopping $1000 cash!

Take the 2UE music survey now to be entered into the draw!

Thanks for giving us some of your time and keep listening to 2UE.""

How generous

The 4BH logo has been updated to now say “Classic Hits” where it used to say “Easy Music”.

ACE (at this stage) have not opted to switch to their Magic-style logo.

Can anyone confirm which playlist/log 4BH is taking? Their website shows different songs played to 2UE and Magic1278.

It appears that 4BH now has its own log.

Also, on their website, the station now has Jukebox Saturday Night & Sunday Morning 60s, both of which are (soon to be were) 4KQ staples.

At least Ace are not silly  .Hopefully they improve the audio of the dab. My guess they may have a marketing campaign once 4kq is switched to SEN. Let us see if they poach some of the talent from 4kq.

Its a shame we didn’t have Ace run 2UE when 2CH switched off. However it appears they are trying to get that old audience with some familiar voices and announcers on 2UE.

4BH seem to be playing more “4KQ type” classic hits while retaining some of the easy music. Eg a blend of the two. This is exactly what they should be doing and it will work very well…if they promote it.

They’ve also introduced a Sunday Morning 60s show which 4KQ have done for decades. They are promo-ing it as “the new home of Sunday Morning 60s.”

They are being very clever with programming to capitalise on the shunted 4KQ listener.

I don’t think they should copy the 3MP/2UE or Magic playlist. If they’re smart they will have their own 4BH playlist that combines the two.
