2UE have very little and highly repetitive ads at the moment. They keep playing a SES CSA on high rotation.

I seem to remember when C91.3 started back in 2001, they had a limited advertiser base back then with many ads repeated in the same hour. Give it time, they will expand the number of advertisers on their books.

2UE is still hiring sales people, so the ads should come in eventually.

The ABC did a digital radio upgrade in May/June last year and ABC Classic is on 120 kbs and ABC Jazz is on 88 kbs. All their stations now sound fantastic on DAB. Triple J in Sydney sounds better on DAB than FM.

The good thing 2UE can do for now, is run less/shorter ad breaks.
Now imagine if 2SM could do the same rather than having to meet network commitments and having to replay the same ads each time?

Yes agree. 2UE apart from Breakfast it seems the first 30 mins each hour is commercial free. They backload whatever ads into the second half … a classic music radio play but effective. 2SM ads are limited clients but such high rotation every break.

Couldn’t agree more. 2UE has the potential to become a commercial player in the Sydney market. The Boomers 1 demographic is almost ripe for the picking now that smooth and WS are skewing younger. We all know the 25-54 listener is where the advertising dollar is but I always keep in the back of my mind that the Boomer 1 audience actually grew up listening and respected the radio.

An interesting observation that 4BH has the “More Music Breakfast”, but 2UE has the “Easy Music Breakfast”.
I wonder if 4BH’s title is to provide what smooth is currently providing in Sydney.

Could be, that would make sense.
I heard the house of the rising sun and devil women tracks, not really very easy music songs. Its a good thing the music isn’t always “easy” on 2ue.

I think they are. If Smooth FM ever launched in Brisbane what would they do? I think the More Music Breakfast is used by both Smooth FMs.
Another thing I noticed was just prior 2UE’s launch. They had a social media post with the logo saying “Sydney’s Best Place to Relax”. I can’t seem to find it anywhere now. Smooth FM’s is “Sydney’s Easy Place to Relax”

You raise a good point. I also head House of The Rising Sun by The Animals recently on 2UE. That is a “classic hits” track but definitely not “Easy Music”. But also they are playing some 90s as well (eg Faith Hill, Donna Lewis, Lighthouse Family) despite their positioner stating “Playing the greatest hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s”. ACE are stretching the format to further broaden the appeal to hopefully hoover in some sampling from Smooth and classic hits / gold station listeners (eg in Sydney 2CH and WSFM). Which is a good thing ! However I hope ACE continue the main focus on “Easy Music” with a really broad and varied playlist true to this format as that’s where the market opportunity is.

Still loving the variety and crafting of the music mix on Easy Music 2UE … stretching the appeal just a bit further i believe to skim listeners from other music stations. How about this log from Friday … these 4 tracks back to back : In The Flesh (Blondie), I Only Want To Be With You (Dusty Springfield), Hot Child In The City (Nick Gilder), Honey Honey (ABBA). Wow !

Additions to the Magic 1278 on air team this weekend. Nigel Ross Saturday 6 am to Noon. Sunday will see Gavin Miller doing breakfast along with the Classic Countdown from 10 am. At 2UE and 4BH, Mark Irvine will cover Sunday night!

ACE really should give 4BH its own Brisbane-based brekkie announcer. Preferably bring back someone from the old 4BH 882 days. I’d say there’d be a spare studio or two in Canon Hill for them to use as well (with old branding already there).
