Nine Radio (Music)

It appears the program is being made by Trevor Sinclair, as it mentions Aloha Media on the Nine Radio Syndication website.

That’ll be Trevor Smith.

I have noticed that Magic 1278 repeats the same songs in the same order 12 hours later eg. if they play Suspicious Minds by Elvis followed by My Life by Billy Joel at 1.10am, they will play these songs again in the same order at 1.10pm. That is lazy programming! If I want to listen to classic hits I would listen to Cruise 1323 via iHeart Radio instead, they have more variety and during the day they have announcers!

And that’s not the only annoying thing they’re doing. Chopping intros off songs. And endings. They played “To Sir With Love” and left off the entire instrumental finish.

Those Vinyl Revivals etc are getting tedious too.

Yeah despite I like the music, it is a real no frills station. It feels like 2CH in Sydney there is more effort into the format despite it not being on analog radio (it still feels “budget”).

Just heard a promo for “Stevies 9 at 9” which will start Monday August 2nd at 9 am.

What shall Nine Radio do with 4BH and the 882am Frequency as it Barely Rates?

Hmm…I’m sensing a theme here. Following the SEN takeover of 1170AM to the detriment of local Sydney radio, you’re now going after Brisbane?!

Sure, the ratings of 4BH aren’t that great but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that Brisbane already has a much better, more localised version in ARN-owned 4KQ.

Nine’s concern is simple - if they sold 4BH to SEN - if/once it fails, someone else could buy it off them and launch a competing talk format.

Nine can ensure they aren’t competitors by owning it and parking a cheap to operate music format.

Nine won’t sell 4BH because it also gives them 128 kbs of valuable DAB+ capacity.

Moe is right, a cheap to run format is better than selling the frequency to a competitor.

Yesterday 4BH played about 20seconds of Rave On by Buddy Holly up to the 2pm news and this has happened a few times lately this is bad radio.

And just now about 5 seconds of Don’t Talk to Him before the news

I don’t think Nine really see the value in that given in Sydney anyway they give more bit rate to 2GB
for talk  . The NTS station is not given any love either. Dab to most commerical operators I think is more of an expense than a benefit.

Although having said that, they would not reluctant give it up. I think it is like the old days, when a stations buys rights to shows but decide not to show it . They just hoard it. Same with DAB, they want to keep it but not really put much effort to use it for specialty programming. NTS is a good example of this.

I don’t think NTS has ever really been given any love, despite somehow surviving three (Fairfax, Macquarie, Nine) ownership eras.

Honestly, would it be that much of a loss to the radio landscape if NTS was switched off with any unique content being run on the music stations?

NTS has more unique content on it than most of the music ‘jukeboxes’ from SCA, ARN and Nova.

(Yes, we live in a world where one program a week is still more unique content than most DAB stations have…)

Yep it’s happening a lot.

I suppose one unique program is better than nothing, but it hardly justifies its own station.

Then again, the same can probably be said about Australia Today from SCA…

What’s amusing to me about this is that 4KQ already has the Classic 9 @ 9. So 4BH will have Stevie’s 9 @ 9 and 4KQ will have the Classic 9 @ 9.

I’ve seen it reported that the 9 and 9 is the highest rated session on the station. It is certainly a highlight.

But they could lease the 882 Frequency to Sports Entertainment Network as Lions Matches are heard on that Frequency.

And the moment SEN offer them enough money, I’m sure they could.
