2UE has a catch phrase now “Another classic hit that won’t be forgotten”. They are playing a lot of 60s music these days. .
Anyone catch whether Stevie Jacobs’ shift is still airing? He popped up on the Today Show this morning (not that his shift is remotely live by any means, but curious to see if someone at Nine Radio took note)
I know voice tracking is not new, but 2UE should have a live breakfast show. I have not really closely listen to Smooth a lot lately, how many of their shows are live?
2UE, Magic and 4BH will simulcast Nine’s coverage of Carols by Candlelight from Melbourne at 8pm local time this Thursday.
2UE seems to be simulcasting Nine Melbourne.
9Music stations will be doing the Greatest 500 Countdown shortly.
Good to see some action happening on these stations.
Interesting prefix on the My Sharona.
This was immediately following a “My song remembers when” segment.
Also noted on their website:
On 2UE this afternoon:
The Everly Brothers - “Wake Up Little Susie”
…followed by…
T. Rex - “Hot Love”
Now THAT’S what I call music variety!
I have to admit I listened to 4BH on a few long walks over the weekend and they were ripping out some fantastic songs. For the first time I could see them perhaps giving 4KQ a run for their money - although to do that it needs to sound a little more ‘live’ in my opinion.
How is the audio sound of 4BH? Sounds good or very similar to 4KQ?
On DAB I find it not as good as 4KQ.
4BH sounds “louder” but sounds tinny.
4KQ sounds great on DAB.
On AM 4KQ is better too, much stronger signal.
Yeah I find 2UE doesn’t sound as good these days on DAB ever since it is 72k.
Interesting that you should mention the RadioApp. It gives me the opportunity to go on a tangent…
I’ve heard this app advertised on many stations in the past, but my thought was always the same: why would you listen to a radio station on your phone? It seemed ridiculous when you could cue up your own playlists on Spotify, with far better track selection and no ads.
But after listening to 2UE, I jumped straight on the app store and downloaded it immediately. Now Spotify plays second fiddle.
Commercial radio programmers could learn a lot from this story. Don’t play overflogged ‘favourites’ on repeat, because people can hear their favourite tunes on Spotify (and many more besides). Instead, adopt bold and adventurous programming so that your station can be used for music discovery.
Here’s what I mean. I’m in my 20s, and many of the songs that 2UE plays are completely unfamiliar to me. That’s why I love it! I’m constantly discovering new music every time I listen, and my favourites get added to Spotify playlists. The same thing happens when I tune into Triple J.
Wider music variety thus facilitates a symbiotic relationship between radio and streaming - not an either/or game.
I agree with this… I have tunein, radioapp and iheart plus spotify and I find more often than not im on the radio apps because of the variety of stations and the music I never get recommended on spotify. 4BH is one of my best discoveries and so is Braidwood FM, and SWR999. Very interesting selections!
Members here might like t try the “Simple Radio” App. I listen to Carolina Classic Hits which comes out of the small North Carolina town of Reidsville. Rick Freeman is your host 24 hours a day and can work several months in advance with hardly lifting a finger.
Totally agree. I’m in my 30s and flicking on Magic or 3MP over the quiet summer radio period has been enlightening to discover some older songs I’ve never ever heard before.
I am in my 40s it is good younger folk still listen to old music. I like 60s music and I was not born then. To me 60-90s hopefully will live on forever similar to the way Classical music have over the centuries.
I do listen to some new music on SWR FM especially on Busco’s show. It has a decent news service (compared to other commercial FM services in Sydney) a friendly down to earth LIVE (getting rarer these days) announcer and a good variety of music, somewhat unpredictable which is good. Anyway off topic . 2ue has good mix of music I enjoy, if there isn’t something good on community radio.
Good to hear. I remember in my teens and early 20s in the 80s I was still discovering a lot of 60s and 70s music listening to the radio too.
