Nine Olympic Coverage (Paris)

Didn’t Jess Fox get knocked out? Should this be Neomie instead?

Arguably Nine’s two biggest stars now.

MAFS aside where I think that show its the star itsself rather than any ‘expert’, whereas Block without Cam isn’t what it is and Woody for all he does across the network.

They just ran another promo at the end of the encore coverage saying something like Jess Fox has her chance at gold. Oops.

Ray Warren did the voiceover for the lineup of events for Day 10. I know he has retired 2 years ago, but it is good to hear his voice. I think he did the voiceovers at his home.

Yeah there were some mistakes or omissions yesterday too, the Paris Encore show must be put together or start to be anyway around 9pm - 11pm our time, which would be early-mid afternoon in France, going off the lovely conditions Todd is always in and ready for broadcast some 13 hours later for our next midday

edit

It’s an early start in Paris for Day 10, as the mixed relay triathlon gets underway, 8am there, 4pm here.

Leila McKinnon and Dylan Alcott hosting, Will McCloy and Annabel Luxford calling, Emma Snowsill and Sophie Smith on the sidelines.

And the heavy favourite Frenchman went down, a bicycle collision with last week’s final dash upset in New Zealander Hayden Wilde who ended up with silver… What a comeback this would be!

It’s disappointing we won’t get Dave Culbert and Richard Fox for the kayak cross with Noemie Fox, as Culbert is at Stade de France calling the field athletic events, unless those heats finish and he can get across to the river rapids in time? Sean Maloney (Rugby 7s from earlier last week) now calling.

Watching Stan Sport and the events in full and ad-free. Big downside is no commentary option and we are stuck with whatever is on the world feed.

I’m really on the fence about this - Nine (and let’s be frank, Seven before them) have taken the approach that their main channel coverage is geared around a highly curated output that is intermixed with colour pieces and studio work (interviews / news etc). With easy access to every event that is on now (and events that have come) - I’m not 100% convinced that everything on the main channel needs to be live and it gives some flexibility around curation. There is a hell of a lot of dead time in some of these events, even minor delays allow for these to be feathered out.

Its not the best outcome, but its probably a better outcome at wanting to keep people watching who may not necessarily be interested in some of the non-action stuff that happens in the event. It doesn’t help that Nine wants people to watch the FTA channel(s) with the coverage for ratings purposes.

Did Leila McKinnon just say on 9Go! “let’s go back now to the track and field, TJ and Tamsyn” :man_facepalming:

Gerard, politely, said nothing.

Oh man… :notes: I’m begging, darling, please

Really can’t stand his style. He’s useless on this canoe slalom stuff.

I don’t disagree with you overall. But the way they were chopping and changing they could move quicker between the track races. They didn’t have to show all the heats either. It was just more stark last night than previous evenings.

It doesn’t help that Nine seems only interested in covering a small number of sports (this is my biggest criticism of FTA coverage of the Olympics, it is only ever the same sports covered) - last night’s morning session was pretty bare if you take out what we seem to consider as “niche” sports for main channel coverage.

Especially since they didn’t show all the swimming heats - used that time to cross to ad breaks.

The fact that track heats were delayed as well is also bizarre - like having a second channel devoted to golf all night.

Clearly one of the executives like’s heats though - the news in Adelaide (already reduced to 30 minutes during the games) was slightly delayed to accommodate a heat.

Don’t like him at all. Swimming caller grew on me as the Olympics progressed but the rugby one has not.

This rapid athletics - diving switching on Go! during the news is giving me a headache.

I’m live streaming the rock climbing too.

Gem carrying the Hockeyroos.

How good is Sam Fricker on the diving comms

Here we go again :frowning: Replays already at 7:30pm, Nine milking the Men’s 100m with Noah Lyles, only aired it 50 time already… C’mon guys, there’s live action happening around France.

We have a bit of a gap now until the next significant event or Australian, with hockey already on Gem. Just show the climbing!

I think Nine just had to edit (as-live) Jane Claxton’s interview with Andrew Lofthouse, following the Hockeyroos’ tough loss. Looked like she said “fu*ken” but muted for a second.

It’s trending online, Georgie Parker’s commentary got some talking :eyes: x.com

Was at the whitewater stadium today to witness Noemie Fox’s gold medal . Came back to the hotel to watch the replay on 9now. Wasn’t a fan of Culbert’s commentary- seemed to me like he was cutting off Richard Fox while calling the race. A few times Richard went to say something but was cut off by Dave screaming down the mic then when Richard asked to go and celebrate with the family, Dave kept him for another 30 sec- min. Maybe it is just me but wasn’t really a fan with Dave’s commentary.

ANDREW GAZE BOOMERS PREVIEW AHEAD OF PARIS 2024 MEN’S BASKETBALL FINALS

THE OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024 ON THE 9NETWORK AND 9NOW

PATTY MILLS AND THE BOOMERS IN QUARTER FINALS AGAINST SERBIA

It’s win or bust for the Boomers when the Men’s Basketball finals begin on Day 11 at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, live and free on the 9Network and 9Now.

Five time Olympian, former Australian Team flag bearer and dual NBA and NBL champion, Andrew Gaze, previews the Boomers crucial match up with Serbia, on a day when the world’s best basketballers take to the court across four quarter finals.

9Network basketball expert, Andrew Gaze, said: “With the greatest player in the world, Nikola Jokic, at their disposal, Serbia presents a huge challenge for the Boomers to overcome in the quarter finals." Said Gaze,

“We managed to beat Serbia in the lead up games, however they were minus another one of their attack weapons sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic, who dropped 30 points in their last game.

“Jokic’s diverse skill set presents threats in every area of the court, so it’s crucial that we defend him as a collective, which is easier said than done.

“Despite their NBA superstars, the Boomers have shown enough in this tournament to be competitive regardless of what the scoreboard has reflected in their two group game losses. The international basketball community regards Australia as one of the most talented teams at the Olympics and for good reason.

“It’s been more so poor execution with offence that has led to our issues with conceding points, and it was a slow start against Greece last start that cost us in the end.

Jock Landale has a big night ahead of him in the paint, but we can’t fall into the trap of focusing too much on one area, or Serbia will make us pay on the scoreboard. We have the talent to win but it will be a total team effort.

"I know Patty Mills will have everyone fired up, and we won’t be taking a backward step. This is going to be a very interesting game.”
