Do we know exactly what Stan Sport will offer as the ‘premium’ service differentiating 9Now?
I’m assuming like the Australian Open, where Stan is ad-free and 4K (select), full match/event replays, minis, bios, alternate/world feed commentary and extra shows/opinions.

Is it just me or has the build up/ad campaign from Channel 9 in the lead up to the Olympics been lacking?
Channel 7 had nice, big promos in the lead up to their coverages (great ones for Beijing and Rio). The promos from 9 have been underwhelming so far.

Nine Radio’s head of content Greg Byrnes told Mediaweek about its radio sub-licensing deal with the ABC
From a strategy point of view, we wanted to maintain exclusivity around streaming and commercial rights, and we’ve certainly done that.
But the ABC partnership is important because there are markets that we don’t broadcast into, and the ABC does, so we’re more than happy to come to an arrangement with the ABC.

For the first couple of days of Nine’s Paris coverage the schedule is included in the Nine schedule area. There might be a clearer way to set the schedule out for the following weeks.

It’s interesting that 9GO! will show the 3m synchronised diving final on day 1 of the Olympics. Has Nine said that the channel will be used for overflow coverage?

It will have to, given it’s the third HD channel. It is interesting though, is there NRL or something on at the same time?
There are other events on main channel and 9Gem at the same time.

There are events starting at 4:30pm AEST (badminton) but 9’s coverage on main channel is 7pm while 9Gem starts at 5pm.
So could they technically be missing the very first events of day 1?

Not sure there’s a huge audience for badminton but those 3 fans can tune in via 9Now.

I’m interested in seeing the studio 9 use in Paris, the one they had for London and Vancouver was okay.

Nine Entertainment is staring at a potential $60m loss from its Paris Olympics broadcast as the cost of the Games coverage mounts while the advertising market is softening.
Several sources have told The Australian that Nine’s total Games costs of at least $120m – including about $100m on its broadcast deal with the International Olympic Committee plus $20m or more in soaring production costs – mean a tough financial outcome is looming.
The network is likely to write revenue of $60m – the most optimistic projection is $80m – which would leave it with a loss of $40m-$60m.
Nine is sending 200 staff to Paris as part of its Games coverage, including a 127-strong production crew, dozens of journalists, and 20 from sales, hospitality, the Stan streaming service and corporate figures.

Nine paid $305 million for the rights to 3 summer Olympics including Brisbane plus 2 Winter games. So I find it difficult to accept the claim that the Paris games rights were worth $100m almost 1/3 of the total rights cost.

Of course Nine’s bitter rivals were going to attack these games left, right and centre, completely ignoring all the other games, including winter and most importantly Brisbane which will be on-par with Sydney 2000…
I’m sure Nine knew 100% long before even going after and signing this IOC deal that Paris 2024 would run at a loss (they’d have to be idiots otherwise) looking at Rio and Tokyo plus Seven’s own admissions.
At the end of the day, the Olympics will always be the Olympics and nobody wouldn’t want them. Seven can say they pulled out financially but Nine wanted them badly and outbid. Sour grapes and Nine and Stan’s audiences will completely own the viewing landscape for over fortnight and get a halo effect afterwards.

I’m not sure where News Corp are getting their figures from. None of this is public. It’s just unnamed sources.
Nine will aggregate the costs over the duration of the investment out until 2032. It is a 5 games package.
That article also states that according to Nine they’ll break even or slightly exceed. So unnamed sources have been contradicted by the network.
