Nine Olympic Coverage (Milano Cortina 2026)

Severe leg injury to American downhill skiier Lindsay Vonn.

He’s not the only person to say that, seen it a few times on Threads of people complaining about 9’s coverage being mainly on Stan and not like in Paris when they had more of the events on 9Now. Doesn’t help that the winter Olympics don’t have as much appeal as the summer Olympics.

Seen a lot of different people talking about this. How this is different from Paris & also different to how 7 treated 2022 Winter Olympics too.

I understand people aren’t fully into Winter Olympics compared to summer and so they would have been putting everything on Stan and nothing on 9Now like with Paris. But they could have still had some events on 9Now.

Also I wonder if this is how they will treat LA 2028. 9 & 9Gem only with other live streams on Stan. Maybe 2024 Paris was a test to get people on board with their first Olympics broadcast and that’s why they had everything on 9Now.

Nine have changed Stan’s operational and commercial model, under new boss Amanda Laing, bringing the paid streamer more ‘in-house’ as opposed to being run as a standalone subsidiary. This was mentioned earlier last year.

And it’s why Stan Sport, for the first time, was heavily cross-promoted and referenced frequently, almost more than 9Now, during this years Australian Open. Previous years it was almost seldom mentioned on Nine.

It’d be fascinating to see Stan’s subscriber (and viewership - almost an ‘icing on the cake’ given recent OzTAM ratings alone) lift this year, especially Sport and certainly considering this Winter Olympics exclusivity.

Are they running that short on appealing events that the two Aussies couldn’t be listed on a single column for the big air final?

Or they wanted to show a picture/footage of them both - and the template doesn’t allow for a 2-1 box split.

Nine really could’ve started tonight’s live telecast at 8pm edt, considering Day 3 events don’t begin until 8:05pm and they’ve had 9Gem replays all day and a main channel highlights show as well. Or had 7:30pm as “Pre Show”.

The last 30min was just Bracey and Langdon talking, offering their thoughts and sorrows to Lindsey Vonn (including another unmatchable replay of the crash but NBC’s POV this time), live-crossed to x3 reporters, showing the Aussie women’s freeski slopestyle runs ahead of tomorrow morning’s final and a colour piece with Woodbridge.

They’re about to go to the Curling.

Might as well switch over to MAFS

Todd Woodbridge doing cooking segments now? At least SBS did it in style with their “Taste le Tour” segments with Gabriel Gate (and now “Plat du tour” with Guillaume Brahimi) during the Tour de France long coverage as filler. lol.

The funny thing is they’ll have the reverse problem tomorrow with the “pre-show” starting at 7.30pm despite the first event at 7.15pm.

Full screen and V/O ‘channel change’ board, at the telecast conclusion on 9Gem at 9:08pm local tonight:

They should’ve done similar with the tennis, instead of just crashing in with Antiques Roadshow, which also saw some poor reception online.

Seven used to do these.

Jess Fox now appearing in-studio with Ally and James.

She says it was “40 degrees in Penrith” when she left.

Why the hell is Nine rebroadcasting part of the men’s figure skating event this morning?

An ice hockey matchup is happening now. The women’s freestyle skiing final is coming up in 15 minutes.

Of course being them, outside of 9Gem daytime, there’s no disclaimer on the screen so some viewers will be tricked into thinking it’s live.

I noticed they also sometimes insert ads at inopportune times and then we end up watching a few minutes delay instead of truely live. It would be nice if they had to disclose whether it was live or not.
