I doubt they will dump the 5pm news. They will just move it forward and shorten the Highlights Show. Not much content to highlight pre the Opening Ceremony.
Nine just amended the schedule and, yes, they did it.
The replay is now 1pm - 5.27pm. Still not 5 hours long so they probably will cut either ads or dead stuff. Preferably both.
I wonder if there is a content sharing agreement for interviews etc given Stan is taking some of Sky’s coverage.
Fair enough. I hope they change the EPG and online guides soon, as they’re still showing the News at 5pm, and Find My County House at 5.27pm…
And the Live Ceremony wasn’t 5 hours long. Didn’t it start at 6am and finished at approx 9.45am? 3 hours 45 minutes long? There was a preview show that i believe started at 5.30am.
5 hours was my replay duration estimation in accordance with how long the original telecast actually was.
But now it’s only 4:27, up 26% from 3:33, which is in line with my expectations from CFTA.
(WT started 9.34.)
They could drop 5pm national news and/or 5:30pm lifestyle (Brisbane got Find My House this morning due to their local show at that time)?
Not sure those rate as well as the ob docs like Border or RBT, nor first run Getaway or Postcards. Or how vital they are to news lead-in being a Saturday anyway and with Nine having Winter Olympics either side now around the clock.
Could they have been using an OBS cameraman and feed for that cross? As a broadcast partner. Similar to how TA and Nine often collab with Aus Open talent and feeds.
I don’t think OBS camera people staff the flash interview zone but I could be wrong.
They have done so.
On 9Now they have split the Opening Ceremony into 1 hour parts, and have only just uploaded the 4th and final part
Interestingly 9 seem to have a clean feed of the Opening Ceremony without the overlays that are being displayed on screen in the stadium.
eg here you can see on screen the name of the performer, Andrea Bocelli, not shown on the Nine footage.
Then Nine’s broadcast doesn’t show the lyrics/words of the poem on screen, or even its name. Eventually found it via the BBC live blog because Nine commentators didn’t even mention it.
Actually look so nice compared to the piece of filth broom closet Seven broadcasted out of Pyeongchang.
Is that not a tad extreme?
And they vastly improved for Beijing 2022, although from Docklands IIRC, re-using the imported massive Tokyo Olympics set/wall screen.
Is time of the essence here? It wouldn’t be a quick nor easy job.
Sets and broadcast looks great!
Stan has the full ceremony without commercials. A good ceremony. Feels like a normal Olympic Games Ceremony we are used to inside a stadium unlike what happened 18 months ago in Paris
Day 1. It begins.
Watched a bit of tonight’s coverage and I noticed that Nine had brought Ray Warren out of retirement to do voiceover on a segment of downhill skiing.
He did one last week for the Aus Open too, might’ve been the opener for Sunday’s final.
Also Sam Smith voiced a good one last night for the Winter Olympics (ice skating), had such a fitting voice for it.
Maybe we’ll hear Jim Courier, Billy Slater, Eddie McGuire or Ian Thorpe next? ![]()
