Warming to the graphics.

Minimalist split screen is on purpose, the transition to the breaking news background is stunning, and the supers animate slickly. It’s growing on me.

Still want to give him time, but I’m finding Steinfort to be quite wooden so far. Reminds me a bit of Mark Ferguson. Alicia is fantastic and would have definitely been capable solo.

IMO, Alicia and Tom sort of look like they don’t really want to be there, Alicia because Tom’s there and Tom because he doesn’t want to be there full stop? It all feels rather forced from upper management, reactive to HSV-7’s ratings/Peter Mitchell and essentially pushing Hitchener to retire.

But it’s not a guarantee that everyone (or even most people) in Melbourne have. Nine viewers, maybe.

Tom’s reading is borderline on par quality-wise but nothing extraordinary.

You and I know who he is… but the average Melbourne viewer doesn’t know his career or where he’s come from. .

And the people who may know him are wondering why the guy from 60 minutes is reading the main bulletin.

Tom is a decent newsreader…until you compare him to Alicia who would have to be one of the classiest newsreaders on Australian TV at the moment.

Hopefully he improves quickly.

I prefer Sydney’s
