Deb is reading Sydneyâs 6pm news tonight
wow
They probably need to send a more experienced reporter given Seven sent Chris Reason and they seemed to have some foresight into what was happening since he was there just as the conflict was starting and the only commercial journalist in Australia there. Seems Nine missed an opportunity there as the initial reports were from Europe where Reason was on the ground in Israel. But good that they have someone there now.
Nine just playing catch-up at this rate. Yes they broke Bondi Junction first & nailed the coverage (although with a scrappy presenter). But since then. Seven has stepped up their game. Nailed coverage on the Bondi Beach Massacre & now the Middle East War.
Now.. Nine needs to quit doing catch-up.. especially in a war like this
How do you suggest they âquit doing catch-upâ? Once something has started you either lead or have to catch-up.
Was a bit disappointed hearing Sophie Walsh on the late news mispronounce Dennis Commeti as âDennis comet-eyâ in the headlines.
Nobody in Sydney picked it up recording the opener etc? I know theyâre not a footy state but viewers in the AFL markets wouldâve been like âah yes, a Sydney bulletinâ
No offense to Soph sheâs a great presenter but this just really stood out to me.
âcomet-eyâ as in comet-like

Some exciting news⌠after 34 yrs of broadcast journalism, Iâve decided to call it a day. Just shy of 24 yrs at Nine, my resignation has been accepted - which conjures up a fair bit of trepidation & exhilaration in equal measure.
So time now to embark on a new chapter & not yet sure what that looks like, but Iâm open to new opportunities & Iâm excited. So much still to learn & discover in the world, and at age 55, so much still to contribute.
Starting out at 2NX Newcastle in 1992 as a wide-eyed 21 yr old from Perth, little did I realise my career path would be so rich & rewarding. Opening my mind to new ideas, satiating my curiosity for news & current affairs, highlighting causes for positive change, and accommodating my passion for communicating & connecting with people⌠broadcasting has been a great gift.
And then there are the countless colleagues whoâve enriched my journey, along with all those Iâve interviewed. They are the reason why the decision to resign has not been made lightly.
So to them and our viewers, I am immensely grateful. Itâs been awesome, and itâs time. GG x
My final 6pm Sydney news bulletin will be on Friday 17th April.
Youâll know whoâll be replacing GG will be certainly Deb Knight.
Thatâs my bet
