I think we might see more of him. Definitely a great fill in presenter.

Zac Bailey did sport again tonight.

Meanwhile Pete seemed quite chuffed that Jamie Lee Curtis and Madison Scott threw back to him together from a live cross

Pete: “I never thought Jamie Lee and Maddy would cross back to me together, you’ve got me on the hop together there!”.

Matthew Pavlich will be leaving Nine News Perth and Fox Footy following his appointment as Sydney Swans CEO (which I must admit I didn’t see coming):

My money would be on Paddy Sweeney taking the weeknight sports reins.

Never been a fan of Matthew Pavlich as a footballer or a commentator!!

You mean, getting them back, as he originally replaced Thommo at the desk when he moved to news, or was at least meant to be next in line, before a former News Director shoved Pav in there at the time.

Nothing against Pav personally but he was not a great newsreader!

Courier Mail:

Nine is sparing no expense in a massive marketing campaign to convince Brisbane viewers their unfamiliar new newsreader belongs behind the desk.

Multiple insiders say Nine is sparing no expense on the campaign, planning a saturation rollout to plaster Dry’s face across Brisbane and regional screens in the lead-up to his first night beside longtime anchor Melissa Downes.

“They’re trying to manufacture familiarity,” one Nine insider said, while another source said

“He’s a complete unknown to most viewers. This campaign is about making him look like he’s always been there.”

Dry’s first bulletin is scheduled to air in the final week of August, with Nine banking on its promo blitz to make him a familiar face by then.

However, Nine insiders say the race to replace Tim Arvier as State Political Reporter has narrowed to two frontrunners: Nine News journalist Abbey Geran and A Current Affair’s Reece D’Alessandro.

A week after Arvier’s departure, Geran fronted a high-impact health exclusive, long considered Arvier’s bread and butter, prompting speculation she’s already being lined up as his replacement in the eyes of the newsroom.

Personally, I wouldn’t be promoting it at all. They are never going to gain viewers from this change. They don’t need any more anyway. The risk here is losing viewers if Seven’s lineup now feels more familiar.

I thought Jess was coming back to take over Arvier’s job?

The article addresses that

“She’s not coming back to be a foot soldier,” one Nine source said. “Some reckon she’s gunning for Tim Arvier’s political gig, or even Melissa’s chair when the time comes.”

If this happens, we would have a married couple co-anchor the news on Australian commercial television for the first time in as long as I can remember (or maybe even ever).

Chris Bath and Jim Wilson were anchor and sports presenter, respectively, on Seven News in Sydney in 2012 but does that still technically count? Depends on how you see it.

News Corp’s Stellar liftout today has an interview with Deb Knight.

Deb Knight addresses Nine culture as she returns to TV news

Last month, Knight returned to a full-time television role at the Nine Network after more than five years spent hosting shows for its radio division.

And she believes her more than three decades of experience leaves her better equipped than ever to cut through the noise.

“There’s such a hunger now, more than ever, to get to the heart of stories and find out what’s true and what’s not,” she explains.

“You need to hear the news from the voices of people that you do trust. I’ve been in the game of journalism – in many forms – long enough that I hope that people do trust [me] when they hear me delivering the news, and know that I’ve not just read autocue, but I’ve done a hell of a lot more.”

“I’m treating the daytime bulletins like a radio show with pictures in many ways, because there’s so much more rolling news coverage now and we’re doing a lot more live interviews,” she explains.

“That’s what I love doing: talking to people.”
