Nine News Presenters and Reporters

What sass?

I was asking a question. Maybe they had a morning news I didn’t know about. That’s why I asked.

Yes - Kiara has been reporting on Weekend Today for quite a while now, balancing that with reporting for 3AW during the week.

No, this week will be 8 weeks since she’s last presented.

Mark Burrows has been filling in for GG for 10000 times now

Not related to Nine but I’m almost certain that she briefly reported on Seven about 10 years ago. She only seemed to pop up occasionally so she was probably freelance.

The Australian’s Media Diary

Peter Overton, has quietly sorted out his contract extension to host Nine’s prime-time Sydney bulletin.

Despite our predictions he would have to take a nasty hair cut on his $1m deal to help compensate for Karl Stefanovic’s new deal, we’re assured he’s still at seven figures.

Another big loss for Nine Melbourne. They’ve lost a lot of good names in recent years.

Sure its a shock when a presenter leaves for another network. But the Nine newsroom has plenty of replacements that (imo) run circles around Laura Turner anyway. So the loss would barely be noticed.

DEB KNIGHT RETURNS TO FULL-TIME TV ROLE

One of Australia’s most respected journalists and broadcasters, Deb Knight, is returning to a full-time television role within Nine’s News and Current Affairs team, effective July 21.

Deb will take on the role of presenter for the national 9News Morning bulletin at 11:30 AM each weekday and will also present 9News Afternoon each weekday in Sydney. In addition to her expanded weekday responsibilities, Deb will continue to host A Current Affair on Saturday nights.

As a result of this new commitment, Deb will step away from radio where she’s host of the nightly Money News program across the Nine Radio network (2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR).

Fiona Dear, Nine’s Director of News and Current Affairs, welcomed Deb’s return to a dedicated television role:
“Deb is an exceptional journalist and a beloved figure on Australian screens. Her extensive experience, versatility and deep connection with audiences make her the perfect fit for these key news presenting roles. We are thrilled to have her back full-time in our 9News and Current Affairs family.”

Greg Byrnes, National Content Manager of Nine Radio, acknowledged Deb’s significant contribution to radio:
“Deb has been an integral part of the 2GB on-air team since 2020, but her ties to talk radio stretch back much further. Nationally, the Money News program with Deb as host, has recorded some of its best ratings on record and she finishes up as No. 1 overall in Sydney. We’ll miss Deb on and off the air but as she’s remaining in the Nine family she’ll never be too far away.”

Deb Knight shared her excitement about the new chapter:
“I’m incredibly excited to be stepping back into a full-time television role with 9News and Current Affairs. It’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of the daily news cycle and connect with viewers during these important bulletins. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in radio, particularly hosting Money News, and I’m grateful for the wonderful listeners who tuned in. I’m also very pleased to continue hosting A Current Affair on Saturday nights.”

Deb will address listeners directly on the Money News program tonight from 7.00pm across 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR.

Her final Money News show will be this Thursday with a new host to be announced in coming weeks.

If Nine wanted to save some money they should’ve given Deb the Fri/Sat Sydney news gig + three days on the Morning and Afternoon News. A less senior presenter/reporter can do the other two days. I’m not sure how they can justify Georgie Gardner’s salary for two nights a week of work. (Or tell Georgie she also has to do three days worth of daytime bulletins).

I remember (it has to be around 7 years ago) Georgie used to do special reports.. now not at all. But I do agree with your point. On 7 the weekend presenters here in Sydney report or present during the week when required.

It’s good to have Deb Knight back at Nine.

Back in the hosting role for Saturday’s A Current Affair, and reading the Morning News at 11.30am, as well as Sydney’s 4pm Afternoon News. A busy schedule ahead.

Well technically she’s been part of ACA. But not Nine News. So it’s great to have her back to our screens full time.
