Nine News Presenters and Reporters (2020-Feb 2025)

now that it’s been made clear he’s not Hitch’s replacement I’d be surprised to see him reading news anymore. Most likely to stick to sport.

That was soon after Nine retrenched 100 News staff across the country during Eddie McGuires penny pinching days in 2006. Included in the wash was Rob Readings who had read the bulletin since Day 1 in 1996 and Extra host Rick Burnett.

Jillian had to present Extra at 4.30 (put on air at 5.30 for Brisbane) and do Gold Coast News Live from at 5.30 all from Brisbane.

Decision was reversed about a year later when Nine lost a lot of its Surfers Paradise floor space and Eva Milic read the news from the Newsroom. Rob was rehired on a job share agreement.

A few years later they managed to get back their floor space plus a bit more.

I think Natalia is doing a great job on 6pm this week. She definitely needs to be part of STW’s succession planning.

Answering a listener’s call on 3AW Afternoons today, Jo Hall said that she was taking some long service leave and would return to the newsroom on January 10 next year.

I thought she was meant to return in November? Unless that was just partial juties including 3AW?

Presenting on 3AW is just a temporary job.

to do what?

No idea. I’m wondering how long she has left on her contract.

Yeah feels like she’ll be on ‘special projects’ for a while then we’ll hear she’s decided to leave to spend more time with her family.

Whilst Jo has said in the past that she doesn’t want to read flagship bulletins anymore, who knows, she might’ve changed her mind after regional news was axed, and could pick up a few afternoon news bulletins here and there.

Don’t forget Jo’s been at Nine for a long time. As long as she’s happy to keep working, I can’t see Nine axing her. Management at GTV will go in to bat for her I’m sure, she’s a very good broadcaster.

Unfortunately that’s not how Television or Business works.

Sorry but I disagree. If for example Peter Overton was told he was going to be sacked by Nine tomorrow, he could easily put a phone call or two into people who are high up and will get the decision overturned.

Jo has been at Nine for 40+ years. I’m sure she’ll have made many friends in high up places during that time. Not holding that against her though; it’s the same case with pretty much all senior reporters and presenters.

Lol

Friends in high places don’t count for much these days. It’s the bean counters that count. Any decisions of those sorts will come from them and will then be filtered down.

I think you may have been watching too many media dramadies…

Decisions to terminate on air talent would be signed off by the CEO of the network, especially if it was involving someone like Peter Overton.

Clearly have no idea how the world works. Lol

Yes, maybe that’s the case. :joy:

Cost cutting will continue in media when roles are no longer required of course, but I mean, it’s Television 101 - if you’re close friends with executives, board members, CEOs etc. they will protect you.

Anyways, back on topic and I really hope Jo remains at Nine. She’s a great talent.

Paul back tonight. Lucky Andrew’s back so Paul is not preoccupied with Brisbane.

I can’t see how there is no one in the local newsroom though. I think Kathryn Foran would be quite good at reading.

She presented the national morning and afternoon news today. Her Twitter bio still indicates that she is with Nine Sydney.

Would be another big loss for TCN if she leaves as well.
