Nine’s new secret weapon in the news ratings race seems to be human teleportation. A report at the top of the Sydney bulletin on the President’s positive COVID test was singed off with “in the United States, Charles Croucher, Nine News”. Two minutes later Croucher was at the desk with Burrows telling us about US military protocols in the wake of the positive test. Remarkable work.
Friday 2 October-
Clint Stanaway is presenting sport in Melbourne again tonight.
That is incorrect.
He says “the presidents tweet came at 12:54am meaning millions are right now waking up to a very different America. Their 74 year old leader has the virus that has already killed 207,000 in the United States. Charles Croucher, Nine News.
Just rewatched the report. There’s a pregnant pause between “270,000” (actually 207,000) and the rest of that sentence.
I’m standing by my comment. He was referring to the amount of cases in the US, not saying he was in the US.
Laurel or Yanny?
You’re correct. He was referring to the number of cases. He is, at the very least, guilty of clumsy pattern of speech.
Thanks mate.
Most definitely not the best practice of speech!
Mark Burrows absolutely smashed Michael Usher in Sydney last night.
Yes. Very weird ratings. Nine wins news while Seven wins sport. People are changing channels.
Tonight will be another huge share for Seven due to Nine News being at 4:30pm in some states.
But does it really come down to who’s anchoring the bulletin?
I’d think that the average Sydney viewer tunes into the news service they prefer based on content, which seems to be Nine. I don’t think that the average person really cares whether it’s Usher on Seven or Burrows or Georgie Gardner on Nine.
I can’t imagine that there are many people who tuned into Seven, saw that Musher was presenting, and because of that turned the channel over to Burrows on Nine because they prefer the presenter.
Generally, this statement is true. And not just for content, but also the fact that Nine News 6pm is familiar to most.
However on typical weekdays, you would know it is known that many prefer Overton, which gives Nine that boost.
Definitely. When Peter Overton started to present Nine News the ratings changed, and have so far won 10 years straight in Sydney.
Justine Conway is presenting weather in Melbourne again this weekend.
Livinia Nixon returns from holidays next week.
