Veteran Nine News Queensland sports reporter Jonathan Uptin is set to make a surprise return to the newsroom next week after a mysterious four-month absence from the television screens.

Uptin, a familiar face in Queensland’s sports reporting scene, went on leave back in July under unclear circumstances, sparkings peculation across the industry.

Confirmation of Uptin’s return was made via an internal email from news director Amanda Patterson on Friday.

Must say I feel somewhat uncomfortable with the level of detail shared in this tweet.

Does Tom really need to name the cafe and suburb the two guys met at? He could just say “Jones and Goodwin caught up yesterday” or “Jones and Goodwin had a meeting yesterday”.

During a cross to Peter V’Landys for The Everest race, he called James Bracey “Humphrey”. At the end of sport, Georgie asked him why Humphrey. James explained it was because he was a Bears fan and something to do with circus being involved at The Everest. Gave me a chuckle!
