I’m sure the transition from Willoughby to North Sydney isn’t the main thing on Hendo’s mind at this time. But considering how he has made a few brief appearances in the public spotlight in recent years, don’t you think Nine (and indeed, all of us) would be happy if Brian Henderson was able to be involved in any “Farewell to Willoughby/Move to North Sydney” celebrations outside of replayed archival footage?
Aside from that observation, the passing of many Nine Network icons in recent years (Mike Gibson, Ron Casey, Mike Wilesee just to name a few) has really made me wondered about what they’re going to do when Brian Henderson sadly passes away. I personally hope that when the time inevitably comes, Nine will air a special program looking back at the life and career of this Sydney television icon.
I’m just going to be honest here. I really don’t think a relocation of buildings is that big of a deal or as exciting as you think.
I realise you keep going on about it as some sort of exciting milestone but majority of people won’t even realise they are based out of a different location when the time comes.
I think you’ll be disappointed. Apart from maybe a puff piece or small mention on ACA or Nine News Sydney (and that’s a big maybe), I really don’t see any news specials or anything massive to commemorate the move.
I agree, The Brian Henderson Studio (or Newsroom) has a pretty good ring to it.
I personally think some people are seriously underestimating just how big a deal the move from Willoughby to North Sydney is not just for Nine, but Sydney/Australian television as a whole.
As I’ve no doubt pointed out before, the end of the iconic GTV-9 studios on Bendigo Street were celebrated with a special program (which I might add was also nationally screened) that looked back at the many iconic programs and historic TV moments made in those studios. 24 Artarmon Road deserves something similar, I think.
Really though? I don’t think anyone in the wider public really cares… This isn’t going to be a fairy tale ending nor are people going to chain themselves to a desk because they don’t want to leave the run down building.
They aren’t going to stop programming across Nine for 24 hours to celebrate and reflect because Sydney is moving 10 minutes down the road.
There will be a package on the Sydney news, maybe a tour on of both new and old facilities on Today and if you’re lucky something hashed together to sound meaningful on ACA.
Are you for real? As if that would make a difference.
More likely. Went out for a coffee this afternoon and everywhere is deserted. I’d say everyone has stayed home today due to bad weather so TV ratings may be boosted.
