I wonder why Nine isn’t using Davina Smith? Surely viewers would be familiar to her face? She’s been reading nationally & locally to Sydney viewers for around 5 years now…

Possibly because she’s already pre-occupied doing the national morning news and Sydney afternoon news.
They could have used Sophie Walsh, but she is covering Fashion Week.
It’s been done before, multiple times. Just need to rotate some presenters around.

Seven News with Mark Ferguson beat Nine at 6.30 by 2000. Nine News did win the 6pm half by 7000 though, with an average of 277k. I would love to see the minute-to-minutes.
