Maybe they should get Peter Stefanovic back, he was really good being a Europe correspondent before the have Sylvia work alongside Amelia Adams in the UK.
Tuesday -
Brett McLeod is back presenting Afternoon News in Melbourne today.
This idea shouldnât be dismissed:
Who else has Nine got- Tony Jones, Brett McLeod, Jo Hall? I believe Alicia still needs to hold the weekend gig a little longer.
Please not Tony.
Tracy seems to be pretty established in Sydney with her property, horses etc. I guess she could commute and maybe do something like Sun-Wed (so three nights away from home) but is that what Nine would be looking for in a replacement for Hitch?
I agree though they donât seem to have a clear succession plan in place. My money at this stage would be on Brett McLeod.
Aside from the aforementioned factors, Tracy Grimshaw would surely have to be in her Late 50s/Early 60s now? The day Tracy quits ACA will probably be the same one she retires from TV, I think.
For the post-Hitchener era, Nine News Melbourne needs their own equivalent to Peter Overton - a presenter whoâs likely to stay in the chair for at least 15-20 years.
Totally agree Tracy will be on ACA until she retires.
Thatâs Alicia. The audience respects her already and she rates.
Wednesday & Thursday -
Clint Stanaway presenting sport in Melbourne.
Seriously? Alicia was reading ABC News Perth Mon-Fri 10+ years ago now!
Friday -
Corey Norris presenting sport in Melbourne tonight.
Who thinks Nine News in Melbourne should adopt the Sun-Thu/Fri-Sat format for their 6:00pm bulletin? Seven News adopted this format in March last year and they scored some Sunday wins as a result (they just couldnât translate it into regular weekly wins though).
Personally I donât think it will do any harm to Nineâs continued dominance in the Victorian capital if they had Peter Hitchener (whose contract expires at the end of this year, by the way) read from Sunday-Thursday and Alicia Loxley (or Brett McLeod) read on Friday and Saturday.
What would also help is that if the Sunday NRL match featured the Melbourne Storm, it should be on the main channel so as to provide a strong lead-in to Hitch, TJ and Livinia.
Storm TV ratings havenât been particularly strong in recent times, and would get poleaxed by the AFL on 7.
Corey Norris is presenting sport on First at Five News & Melbourne News again this weekend.
Saturday -
Mark Burrows is presenting in Sydney.
Peter Hitchenerâs retirement is looming. Heâs 73 and will be 74 next February. If Hitchener does retire in November, it will be exactly 17 years to the day since Brian Henderson retired in November 2002 on Nine News Sydney.
Highly doubtful Hitchâs contract is renewed
Then you donât know the Melbourne market. Heâs trusted, experienced and heâll decide when he goes. If ratings fall, itâs not cos of Hitch.
Yep, well said. Did Nine Melbourne remove Peter Hitchener from the chair when they were rating behind Seven from 2007 to 2011? No. Theyâd be more than happy for Hitch to continue reading the news for as long as he wants to.
I also think Nine Sydney really wouldâve been more than happy to have Brian Henderson reading the news for a few more years after 2002 but of course, he retired on his own terms and in any case still seems to have a fairly healthy relationship with the network (especially if he agreed to participate in the âchatting up Peter Overtonâ series of promos last year) unlike some other former primary and fill-in TCN 6pm presenters.
Canât compare 21 years of melbourne storm games being put on after midnight or put on the secondary channels and compare the ratings
He is up there with the late Brian Naylor and likable.
I think he has got a right to decide, just like Mel Waldren did to him
