Caps please! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Queensland got a new Millionaire Hot Seat promo that omits the start time (now 4:30pm) - previously promo said 5pm. Not sure why they would not include the time.

No mention of the new bulletins at the end of the Sunday 6pm bulletin in QLD.

This is how you know they’re doing it out of obligation and for no other reason.

I mean let’s be completely honest, the amount of content they’re producing per sub-region is identical to the noodle update format, just instead condensed into one bulletin with all the other regional news.

It’s not like SC 9 don’t have space to place the promos - they insert a community service announcement filler every other ad break.

That’s a little unfair. Those noodle updates never had reporters on the ground, or vision, and were often just rehashed stories that had been in that day’s paper - and were often hopelessly out of date.

These at least employ journalists in region. How they are used is debatable, but let’s not kid ourselves - this is hardly Prime7 levels (outside of their bulletin markets).

I think if it was for obligation you’d see noodle updates like on Prime7 and WIN

I think Nine and SCA see the commercial upside of having a strong local news. They know stations with strong news are more competitive throughout primetime: 7QLD, 7 PER 7 Tasmania. NBN Newcastle GWN7

They have 85 odd staff, and will be producing 3 live 30 minute bulletins a day when they could be doing rip and read

They know the benefits - unfortunately they don’t seem great on executing or planning it well

I think it’s a complete lack of strategy. As someone who’s worked in TV promo marketing departments - I can now see the missing link is SCA has no one in any kind of marketing or promo strategy role across the whole station group.

Which is odd as 7 Tasmania makes fantastic promos and runs the crap out of them

SCA9 obviously has some junior junior promo schedukers putting together the logs and running promos for Brisbane weather guys. And no one above them strategically deciding - ok we need to market and push our new news

They could have had

Promos
Mentions on news updates
Social pages
Pop ups

All these basic simple things

Running for a few weeks now.

If SCA said to the Nine promo team “hey we want 3 pop up graphics made please - one for each state for the new news at 530” - nine’s promo would happily oblige Im sure. It would be in the affiliate agreement that Nine’s network promo team provide a certain amount of asset support for SCA

But no one at SCA seems to be in a position like that to make these decisions

SCA9 not running decent promos is one thing but 10 has gone more than a decade without a decent news promotions strategy

Haha that is true!

But also 10’s News has been at 5pm for over two decades now.

Im sure if they moved the time slot - they would promote that. Gosh I hope

Most news related promos have been replaced with this;

However I have seen that stupid weather promo during the 6pm news.

I wonder what the closer will look like?

“That’s your local news for this [Monday], I’m Jo Hall - 9 News with Peter Hitchener starts right now.” And then straight into the 6pm news?

Or, “That’s your local news for this [Monday] - coming up next Peter Hitchener has [top story on 6pm news), for now though, I’m Jo Hall - goodnight.”

Also, just confirmed that the Victorian bulletin will not be in the same studio as Melbourne’s 4pm & 6pm bulletins, instead on the floor above.

Would be a great way to get ratings…especially if they’re very attractive.
