No.

A pretty decent look at what the bulletin presentation is going to be like- green screen studio.

That autocue tho. “No use crying over spilt milk”

The story relates to a milk truck crash in northern Sydney today. Overton used the same line in the Sydney bulletin tonight. Hope the bulletin’s content is a little more local and relevant by the time they start broadcasting into regional areas.

They’ve also misspelled “Illawarra”

Green screen. What a shame. Just when 9 News is starting to look spectacular around the nation - they hire 110 new staff to produce these new newscasts - and they cheap out on building a set and do green screen. What a shame.

Again, all these new markets (QLD, SNSW, VIC) are similar in size to the Adelaide market - so if they warrant a set - these new newscasts should too.

NBN News weatherman Gavin Morris just told Tanya and Steve on KOFM Newcastle that Channel 9 has allowed him to do the Southern NSW Weather for Nine News from Newcastle every night.

Now the news and weather presenters have been confirmed for the nine news southern NSW bulletins, who will take on the duties of reading the sports for the southern NSW bulletins? I mean a sports presenter.

Mike Lorigan is the sports presenter. Formerly from NBN.

What about the sports presenter on the local news in Victoria?

I’m still tipping Mark Macgoogan BTW

Was/is it realistic to expect Nine to fork out the money to do metro-style sets (which with all the giant screens/videowalls and desks with screens built into them, surely must’ve cost tens of thousands of dollars, possibly even $100k+ each?) for the regional bulletins? Personally, I don’t think so.

You also have to remember that even though the size of the wider Queensland, Southern NSW/ACT and Victoria markets might be comparable to Adelaide, the sub markets (like the Canberra market, the Illawarra/South Coast market, etc.) most certainly are not.

I don’t think its realistic to think Nine was going to have sets quite on the scale of the new design with wrap around video walls and glass topped desks (in fact, not a chance)
I do think it’s realistic and I was hoping for actual sets - - scaled down version of these sets - with a similar at design aesthetic - just smaller and lesser budget.

The market size or the sub markets is irrelevant.

Each of the new three bulletins (QLD, NSW and VIC) go out to an audience and market the same size as ADL. Actually the QLD market is bigger than ADL by a few hundred thousand.

1.2m - 1.8m are not small sized TV markets by any stretch of the imagination .

Look what ABC has in NT, TAS and ACT. (200-500k markets)

Look what Nine has in Darwin. (150k)

Look at what Seven has on Gold Coast (600k)

All much smaller markets than the new 3, and all the above have pretty decent sets

Could also be that they are only using green screen to test things perhaps?

The green screen also allows them the flexibility to have parts recorded (or live even) from different studios, while still giving the impression of being live. For example, we now know that the weather for NNSW will be coming from Newcastle.
It also means that Vanessa could travel to Canberra and present from the SCA studios there if need be with no noticeable difference.

Nine aren’t known for severe cost cutting, and with old sets now available for use in Sydney and Melbourne for no cost, the reason for using a green screen has to be at least a little more strategic than saving money.
