Is the bulletin called Nine Late News?

Charles and Chris on the desk tonight were a terrific combo. It’s been said a lot on these forums but these two are definitely destined for big things.

In true Aussie news bulletin naming style, it’s consistently inconsistent.

In dialogue it’s usually called “Nine’s Late News” or “Nine Late News”, the TV guides are usually “Nine News Late”, on-screen text varies between the above.

I was thinking this last night while I was watching the bulletin, but I get the feeling that Nine have long-term plans for Charles Croucher to be the successor to Peter Overton on Nine News Sydney and they have been building up his profile over the past couple of years to establish him as a respected newsreader. Just a theory.

I’d count on Deborah Knight to cover 6PM.

NNL - I do like Michael Thomson or Alice Monfries, both do a great job.

Deborah Knight is only five years younger than Peter Overton if i’m not mistaken. I think Nine will most likely go for someone much younger when the time comes.

I can definitely see Charles Croucher getting more stints at presenting the news in the meantime. He did a great job at presenting Nine News Late last night.

Probably someone among the lines of Chris O’Keefe or Jayne Azzopardi (if they’re still at Nine by then)?

In any case, I reckon that we’ll likely still be seeing Peter Overton reading bulletins into his mid-70s like Hitchener down in Melbourne (barring the possibility of something completely unforeseeable at the present time), so we could be waiting quite a while for a new lead presenter of Nine News Sydney.

Does anybody know how old Jayne and Charles are? Just for knowledge…

12 years old and 93 years old…

…probably mid-late 30s.

Not sure of the popularity of Charles - where did he originally appear from to generate this elevation to being considered for 6PM?

The late bulletin also needs a more regular time and earlier time such as 9:30/10PM, I’m in bed watching a movie or scrolling on facebook to be up watching TV.

I watched it last noght, and thought Charles did a good job. I also liked Chris O’Keefe on the desk too, and the chemistry between the two.

Why is the late news from Sydney now, rather than Perth?

Funnily enough, I was watching the late news with a friend of mine (who frequently watches 9News) and they said “who’s that?”
I don’t think he’s as well known as Nine would like him to be - but all in good time.

Think he comes from Darwin?

He was Sports/Fill-In Presenter at NTD for quite some time.

He moved onto Sydney then Foreign Correspondent, now back in Sydney.
