Nine News Late (2020-Feb 2025)

Agree.

The Latest is a world class broadcast - clearly an EP with a vision and a mission

Nine News Late is a throwaway product. An EP with no vision and no brief from the network.

The diff between the two is night and day

If Nine takes some eyeballs away from The Latest, and makes its economic case harder and harder to justify, it will feel like it has won.

If, for whatever reason, Seven decides to axe The Latest, Nine News Late will disappear quicker than you can say “Mediaspy outrage”.

Is this bulletin also being broadcast in WA? (Im assuming 2 hours delay)

Is the bulletin still a compilation/rehash of reports filed for the 6pm bulletins mixed with a few crosses to reporters? Haven’t seen much of the program since the ‘peak’ Coronavirus period hence the question.

The problem is due to the potato salad that is FTA scheduling, the two bulletins rarely go directly up against each other so it’s near impossible to determine how much of an impact Nine’s late bulletin has had on The Latest

Yeah mostly. The stories are the same as 6PM. Even the background graphics are the same on most nights. I see the merit behind a late news bulletin - personally I don’t know of anyone who actually has the time these days to sit down at 6PM and actually watch the bulletin. Late news works for those people. I don’t think the presentation of the bulletin makes it obvious that Nine know who their target audience is with the Late News.

Does nine live stream the bulletin online and social media?

They don’t. It would be cool if they did.

The Latest seems to live stream on Facebook. Or some of it I believe.

Big bulletin tonight with multiple live crosses across the 30 minutes especially focusing on Australian stories.

Am watching the late news tonight and Michael’s presentation has somewhat improved. Not a lot of shouting but he does seem to have a habit of raising his voice to a climax and then dropping down. He also seems to move about quite a bit as he presents, which is a bit distracting.

One hour edition in the schedule next Sunday

During tonight’s Late News, I saw Perth weather presenter Scherri-Lee Biggs. Is this the first time she has appeared on the bulletin?

As of Sunday, Scherri-Lee Biggs is presenting weather from the Perth studios

Sounds like Sunday’s hour long bulletins will have a finance update with Brooke Corte. (Scott Phillips does Mon-Thurs)

Plus Clint Stanaway is presenting sport (first time we’ve seen sport during the late news)

Assuming that’s not a mistake which Nine later corrects, 2+ straight hours of news/current affairs (60 Minutes) is probably too much in peak primetime

Nine’s Sunday 9.30pm news has been one of the only 9.30 shows that is consistently rating well. It’s good flow from 60 Minutes hour long news works at 4pm and 6pm. Nine has nothing else other thanUK Botox specials and US cable crime specials.

Was just about to mention Clint presenting (noticed it on my Twitter feed).

Looks like they are making some good changes to the bulletin.

So that’s 3 Bulletins for Clint on a Sunday. 5pm National, 6pm, Late News. Hopefully gets a pay rise!
