I think the generally agreed upon meaning of marketing speak For news “live and local” means to originate locally.
Not from interstate.
It’s deliberately misleading.
Survey 1000 viewers and I think the generally understood concencous would be that the news is being broadcast from Darwin. It is not.
Considering 9 las already lost the trust of Darwin by dumping their news, you would think being deliberately misleading in new promos would not be something they’d want to do.
“A full hour of local Darwin, NT and national news. Live and dedicated to Darwin - and only Darwin” would be just as effective - and truthful.
The promos being produced right now is the best I’ve seen from this station in years. It’s good to see.
But the new promo saying live and local from Darwin then proceeding to show shots of Paul standing at Darwin Ski Club is very misleading.
Then again, you don’t want to promote the bulletin being presented from Queensland so maybe a more generic approach is best.
Despite this, I don’t think it makes much difference if it’s presented in Darwin or Brisbane as it’s dedicated anyway. I was quite surprised to see a 3 presenter model on this bulletin rather than single though.
Obviously Paul will be visiting the region frequently so his knowledge of the area will be stronger. I’m suspecting we may see him present on-location for significant news events or paid promotion eventually.
I can confirm Imparja will be carrying Nine News Darwin live as-well so they are technically reaching just under a million people (NT wide and Rural QLD, not sure about Imparja South)
Presenting, as such, interstate is not much of a problem. The catch will be around production- if EPing, producing and editing is all done out of QLD, issues will begin to arise I think.
A shame they are persisting with that backdrop. It’s a terrible botch job of inserting the city shot.
Have a live shot or even a static image like the Gold Coast news.
Sydney is considered the central hub of Nine. They seem to have a more national focus over Adelaide I guess.
Adelaide’s news is at 5pm - they would have to reschedule Hot Seat for Darwin. They also hand over to the 6:00pm presenters so there is continuity issues as-well.
