This link is mostly NBN News related but it will also affect some people currently working at NIne Darwin. It probably puts to bed any chances of a revival of a Darwin news bulletin. We will be extremely lucky to see the news updates being maintained in its current form but I don’t like my chances of seeing that happen WIN Network proposes major NBN News cuts
Isn’t WIN now obliged to produce noodle updates at a minimum because they’ve purchased the station?
Well 7 Darwin has to show news updates after the 7 network bought the station from SCA so I expect WIN to also be obliged to show news updates as well. Just how many of them to be produced is the real question.
Looking like Darwin is safe from WIN News cuts? No reports about cuts by WIN in NT.

Nine has already axed the Darwin news bulletin except for news updates. If nine didn’t axe the bulletin, WIN will probably do it or make it a 30 minute news bulletin at 5 30 pm. The former is more likely.

The TV guide for Darwin for Monday 29 June just says 9 news at 6 pm. No mention of WIN News at 5 30 pm. So most likely noodle news updates will continue for the time being.

No, but given Kyrrie is up there (still AFAIK) and maybe a camo too, it probably wouldn’t cost them much to do one, get a story or two with some sports news thrown in and pad it out with generic regional Australia stuff from other WIN bulletins and there you have it, a news bulletin!

They have nothing to work with unless they grab generic NSW/QLD content. WIN really doesn’t produce the varied stories required each day to make such a venture successful for NT, SA or WA.

WIN don’t have a local news requirement in Darwin at all. Seven have one due to them being over the 70% reach level, which is the other trigger (besides the purchase itself) for the new higher local content provisions.
WIN at the moment seem to inexplicably do noodle updates in SA/WA and added back “bulletins” for Griffith and Mildura despite not being legally required - which I will never understand, their normal news is under resourced, they shouldn’t waste resources on things not legally required when their key bulletins are so bare bones.
I assume their Tasmanian news would now be resourced just like the other regional bulletins - so just the 3 journalists? That would leave them at a similar level of filling it up with interstate junk, so I wouldn’t necessarily put it past them to try.
If it’s the case about WIN avoiding crime stories for not wanting the legal risk, it’d probably be quite a strange Darwin bulletin most days.
This is my point with NTD. The amount of local stories produced under the current format is sufficient for a half hour bulletin. Keeping in mind sports stories etc to fill.
So with Jessica Worboys reading the 9 news Darwin updates currently, is that newsreader likely to finish tomorrow or is she likely to continue with the news updates under the WIN News Update brand or will there be a different one altogether?
I understand that it is presented from Newcastle at present. Will that studio in Newcastle still be used for the Darwin news updates or will it be closed and the news updates be read from somewhere else possibly Wollongong or Hobart?
and lastly with the news updates likely to be transitioned to WIN News updates will this thread be merged in the WIN News thread or not?
If it’s WIN News branded, i assume it’ll be done by whoever does the WA and SA updates for WIN.
