Interesting that the FB page has continued to upload national stories.

but why do that if there are sponsors who could do with some free airtime disguised as “news”
Easy to do from somewhere else
You largely don’t need to go into a studio anymore, whether it’s audio or video – COVID just accelerated the inevitable.
Of course, but I figured they’d abandon the page once the bulletin was axed.
Probably worth keeping around and posting the odd story here and there. Doesn’t take much and given there’s still a reporter there it makes a bit of sense.
Interesting to see that Nine has posted a social media-only report for Darwin.
They will probably have to do some of these if there isn’t enough news from Darwin that they can be used nationally
Features on Media Watch tonight.
The only weather mentioned for Darwin on the 9 news Queensland bulletin is that on the national map that’s all for Darwin weather. There’s no seperate 7 day forecast for Darwin, only the cities from south east Queensland.
I mean did you expect otherwise, really?
Media Watch’s report:
They show the south east Queensland cities in full detail as it’s essentially a Queensland bulletin shown to the Darwin and Northern Territory audience. Darwin only get mentioned on the national weather map
I was answering a question that somebody asked previously on the Darwin weather. As soon as I saw the Queensland bulletin in relation to the Queensland flood situation I then gave out my answer to that question
I could only see Darwin getting more mentions in the weather if they did an opt out for them, but doesn’t seem like they want to do anything at all.
NT viewers will be lucky to get a ‘local’ national report during Qld’s news every so often now.
Not really ideal for the Queensland viewers though. They won’t want that in their local news.
Assuming it’ll just be local stories dressed up as national reports, same as you’d see for any other national story of significance during a local bulletin.
I can’t see them shoehorning in Darwin hyper local stories into Queensland’s bulletin just to appease people disappointed that they’ve all but exited the NT.
Guess we’ll see.
I think that would be the best compromise. At the end of the day it’s not Queenslanders problem that Darwin lost their local bulletin and it shouldn’t mean local Darwin stories infiltrate their news.
IIRC they said that they would continue to make reports for national audiences, however, appears they are now also doing online only local stories on their socials, so they might still be doing some local content to try and justify having a reporter there.
Not ideal, but at least there is some form of local content.
and eventually that reporter and camera person will leave, and they just won’t replace them, and then that will be it.
