Nine News Darwin

I’m surprised that Jono declined that given he had been reading the news for a long time in Darwin. Maybe he had enough or maybe there might be other factors. Without the likes of Jono and Taylor it’s very hard to fill the shoes. Maybe the current prime Newsreader / weatherman could be interested as he has knowledge of the Darwin area?

Jono recently left a long-term marriage and entered a new relationship so that’s a factor personal-wise.

It’s a massive ask relocating from capital cities/major centres (particularly if you have been there for almost your whole life) to Darwin. However, the recent location of Tahlia Sarv from QTQ to NTD says otherwise.

In an ideal world, Nine would of liked to snatch Amy Culpitt or familiar local ABC talent but the salaries are much higher there.

His husband is Dan Bourchier - the presenter of ABC News ACT. He definitely won’t relocate back to Darwin sadly.

That’s interesting, particularly about Jonathan being offered, thanks. I still think Charles Croucher should have been given the bulletin.

He has a higher chance of securing a presenting role in Sydney rather than Darwin right now. He would be silly to relocate to the NT.

You’d want somebody decent though.

A new roster has been implemented for the Darwin bulletin.

Paul Murphy will now present Monday and Friday, and Paul Taylor will present Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tahlia Sarv will present the weather on odd weeks and Amy Clements will present even weeks.

Zarisha Bradley will now only fill-in on weather if required.

Do you know of any particular reason for reducing the days?

Seems odd to me, for him to be contributing local stories from a different state thousands of kilometres away

While it can’t be stressed enough that there aren’t many positives to come out of Nine News Local ending on June 30, could one of them be a return to live editions (even if still presented from Brisbane rather than the Top End) of Nine News Darwin?

Guess Samantha Heathwood could probably start a weekend edition of Nine News Darwin?

There is discussions of moving Darwin back to pre-2017 local format but controlled via QTQ.

Nothing confirmed yet.

isn’t it live now? there’s nothing to return to?

That would be fantastic.

Well it’s not really worth operating a separate studio and control room just for NND at QTQ. It’s just as viable to have it on the ground in Darwin. If they wanted to, QTQ could shift the regional control room to Darwin and have it all there again.

The problem with NTD in the past is they had up to 6 people in the control room at a time due to the lack of modern technology. All the studio cameras were manual as-well. It was costing a fortune to run.

All the regional technology is essentially new and all automated, meaning much less heads required if they wanted to produce from Darwin again.

The previous Blake Street facility has had some renovations recently as-well. Not sure why.
