fatality is the noun for fatal:P
More commonly used with car crashes. Not sure about its usage here.
Bit odd. Fatal might be used in more of a police context, as in âitâs a fatalâ when referring to a crime scene or, as @Squee said, a car crash.
âMelbourne Deathsâ or even âFour Dead in Melbourneâ would be better.
This overly emotive report on Nine News Brisbane of a quarantine breach tonight totally denied by Queensland Health. Courier Mail had the original report, Nine ran with breaking news âweâre toldâ. Seven also had the report but attributed it to the Courier.
âMelbourne Crash Kills Fourâ
Yeah, I agree the use of Fatal is too jargony not to gloss over.
I wasnât sure if this use of fatal was some new form I wasnât aware of or it was a mistake. English is such a flexible language and parts of speech tend to be rather notional and I wondering if this was some new use of the word other than as an adjective.
I thought it should have read Melbourne Fatalities for what itâs worth.
Agree.
I thought they might have been trying to abbreviate Fatalities as Fatal. Sounds wrong.
Hmm.
Nine have started this âArvo Wrapâ article on their website and social media. Itâs a new way to see the top stories throughout the day. I like the idea if you donât have much time to watch the news and just want to read for a few minutes.
Also Finance, Sports and Weather is included. And a crossword game too!
It wasnât a crash though, it was a triple murder-suicide.
Oi, quoting the wrong mod is my schtick.
Technical issues with 9 News Sydney with multiple black screen glitches during the first report by Lizzie Pearl. Also the âtextâ on the bottom which displays the name of the people speaking was delayed on screen.
Canât have two mods with the same colour image, it confuses me too. I always want to call Squee a Kiwi bastard.
Steven Marshall had two seperate reports on 9 News Sydney today. Is this due to a lack of available reporters?
Only one kiwi bastard around here.

You hate those periods -and they havenât thankfully happened to us in a long time- when theyâre chopping and changing newsreaders hoping thatâs going to fix a problem.
Iâd say that loosing Georgie to Today, then pushing Deb Knight to the side when the breakfast show didnât want GG anymore is âchopping and changing newsreadersâ!
True, but I reckon heâs more so making the point that the weeknight team has been very stable, since theyâve had the same team for over 10 years now (with the exception of Ken retiring and Cam being brought in of course).
Whereas over at Seven, they axed Chris Bath for Mark Ferguson, demoted Jim Wilson to make way for Mel McLaughlin, and removed Sarah Cumming from the bulletin whilst she was on maternity leave!
