See, this annoys me. We constantly get at least once a year stories on improving your sleep and the health benefits etc etc and here, because it suits them, they are now encouraging irregular sleep patterns. Geeze.

9NEWS WINS THE RATINGS YEAR IN MELBOURNE

9NEWS has firmly established itself as the leading news bulletin in Melbourne, securing an early triumph in the 2024 ratings year.

As we near the end of the 22nd week in the 40-week official ratings calendar, 9NEWS has emerged victorious in all 22 weeks in Melbourne, based on average weekly audience measurements, ensuring an unbeatable lead.

This marks the first time Melbourne has secured the top spot since 2021.

This remarkable achievement underscores the continued trust and loyalty of our viewers, who turn to 9News for the most comprehensive and reliable news coverage.

Hugh Nailon, Director of 9News Melbourne, said:

“Reclaiming the ratings crown in Melbourne is a testament to the relentless efforts of everyone in our talented newsroom. With Alicia Loxley and Tom Steinfort hosting Monday to Friday and Peter Hitchener hosting weekends, we offer unparalleled dynamism and experience across the seven days. We are honoured by the trust our viewers place in us and remain committed to delivering news that is both relevant and impactful. This achievement motivates us to keep pushing the boundaries of news reporting and to serve our community with the highest standards of journalism.”

Huge turnaround from last year when (IIRC) it took them until around this time twelve months ago to win a ratings week (eventually winning three).

In fact I don’t think it’s lost a ratings week since it was announced that Alicia and Tom would take over from Hitch on weeknights.

That, and the strong performance of its lead-in show Tipping Point Australia, is a good result for GTV.

Believe it or not, Nine are actually going to have other news after the ad break.

Well it has always been advertised as a normal news bulletin so why wouldn’t they have other news?

New QLD 9News promo says “as we prepare to host the 2032 Games.” Will be interesting if 9 Brisbane are hosting them! :joy::joy::joy:

The current Olympics contract has Channel Nine broadcasting the event up to and including the 2032 Summer Olympics.

I know that. But 9 News isn’t hosting the games, Australia is.
Mind you, they may do a better job than what an LNP government will do in Qld after they’ve slashed all our services.

They can always share the events around the country :

9 Brisbane love their consumer stories. They could do “Olympics on a budget” or something like that…

Don’t start giving them ideas :stuck_out_tongue:

This is an incredible achievement after the huge loss of last year. Such a quick turnaround. Well done.

Not for the first time though.

In 2012 they also hit back hard winning all 40 ratings weeks (coincidentally, Nine also televised the Olympics that year), though the previous year was much closer, with Nine News winning 14 weeks in Melbourne (it was the fifth year in a row Seven News had won the ratings year in that market).

Luke Bradnam shouting his report tonight about surfing at the Olympics.

You given up on 7News?

Could we see Nine’s Sydney Bulletin trailing a Dual Anchor System on Weeknights during the Summer? They’ve gotta after Melbourne‘a Success.
