Nine News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

Apparently by the time they got to the games they had to revise the staffing for the fourth time, and many people who were from Sydney had to be dropped due to the COVID situation there.

I’ve been on holidays in Queensland this week and I must say, Nine News seem to run rings around 7 News up here. Every night they seem to be breaking exclusives.

Their mention in Parliament today certainly did “make” the bulletin tonight: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Perhaps that was the bargain- the exclusive drop instead of the interview?

And now Tim Arvier has been given access to the LNP’s budget reply due tomorrow.

Another leak and exclusive to Nine News Queensland.

Nine News with another win in the 5-city market on Wednesday.

Multiple mentions in Parliament today provided them with a delightful montage that they could put towards tonight’s politics report. A quarter of this report was dedicated to talking about the leaking of the budget reply announcements to 9 News. Four days in a row now that leaks to 9 News did “make” the bulletin, can they milk it to five?

Not sure taking the angle that leaking is bad/unstable helps you get more ‘leaks’ in the future either?

And another win on Thursday. (Tipping Point was almost 100k ahead of The Chase).

Incredible boomer meme

Definitely belongs on your aunt’s Facebook wall.
People pretend like Hendo was anymore than an autocue reader.

What an incredible millennial comment.

But then I don’t think any of today’s 6pm newsreaders come across as being arrogant to me either.

Brian just had that aura and style that hasn’t been rivaled since, that to me is the key difference.

I think it must be a thing where Sydney grew up with him so are used to it… any vision I saw/see of him, found/find his delivery far too slow and mild, and his appearance a bit off putting too. Kevin Crease or Mike London were far superior at the time, and Overton is a much more desirable anchor now.

Whether or not there was a guy who just “would read the news on television” and “didn’t have an agenda” the bulletins still tended to have an inherent bias that reflected various ownership at the time. It was just that viewers were probably less aware that the bulletins were not giving all sides of the story. Now, with multiple sources of news, its harder to brainwash the viewer.

I’m not a boomer. I was after his time, but I agree with the sentiment behind the meme.

Or I’d even argue, it’s easier. Many don’t realise what they’re seeing is not news, it’s opinion. That’s because they’ve been brought up on it. Many just get their news from social media.

I don’t think the news bulletins were any better back then compared to now; I don’t see the major bulletins now interviewing opinionated taking heads. In the past there were plenty of shows that had opinionated talking heads. Take Hinch for example.

It’s more the angle and the headlines I guess. And stories with no substance or factual base, just speculation or “according to sources”…
