Nine News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

There must be more to it. This studio is massive… just for a few yearly/tri-yearly events.
Elections have also been from Sydney, and from what we’ve seen so far, there doesn’t seem to be much else other than a big videowall, so not sure if it will work for dynamic election coverage.
I don’t think they’ll go the 24/7 news channel route, but I do sense there’s a new political show coming, a Canberra bulletin (or new contract with WIN for Nine to produce bulletins), or more extensive political coverage embedded into existing news bulletins.

I also wonder if the Tasmania bulletin was planned to look similar as this since it was meant to be a new studio.

Like The Verdict with Karl Stefanovic.

I presume Nine will use their studio for reports during bulletins, and live crosses to Canberra.

In addition to Afternoon Briefing, ABC also uses their studio for nightly reports, as well as live crosses for the News Channel, and occasionally they do full bulletins from their during. ABC also uses their studio for parliamentary coverage (i.e. analysis of press club), and 7.30 whenever Laura Tingle or David Speers hosts, or if Sarah Ferguson is presenting from Canberra.

Nine now has a big space given they have TV, Radio and Print. As for Seven it is possible they have a decent space, but only have a screen plonked in the middle with a camera.

They could’ve still gone a similar route for NBN with a curved set but cheaper flat TV panels, like the BBC News sets (sans the riser).

Compare the pair:

Nine QLD’s script on last nights bulletin for Acacia Ridge murder;

“…was stabbed by a man known to him, who didn’t stick around”

Of course he won’t stick around. He’s a criminal who just stabbed someone with a knife. What is he gonna do? Stand there and wait for the police?

It’ll come in handy when they decide to update the Sydney set - they can send Pete down to Canberra while they renovate the North Sydney set.

Nine’s new Canberra digs are incredible. Nothing else like them in Parli House.

Could it be a prelude to Nine’s 24 hour news channel? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

TV blackbox has an article on the new studio.

Sky News would like a word. Their studio is even larger.

Nine eventually reported on a light plane emergency landing in Newcastle for NSW viewers - about 10 minutes after it was shown live on Seven.

He didn’t say anything about Nine’s being the largest.

He said there was nothing else like it in Parliament House. I explained there is. What’s your point?

That larger doesn’t mean better?

Who said that mate? I didn’t.

Just pointing out that a similar studio already exists in Parliament House.

They forgot to put the 9 News logo on the screen at the start of the breaking news, this is what is looks like without it.

Breaking… literally.

Also:
Pretty bad how often the old graphics seem to be popping up lately.
Don’t have a “Breaking News” opener in the current package?
