There must be more to it. This studio is massive… just for a few yearly/tri-yearly events.
Elections have also been from Sydney, and from what we’ve seen so far, there doesn’t seem to be much else other than a big videowall, so not sure if it will work for dynamic election coverage.
I don’t think they’ll go the 24/7 news channel route, but I do sense there’s a new political show coming, a Canberra bulletin (or new contract with WIN for Nine to produce bulletins), or more extensive political coverage embedded into existing news bulletins.
I also wonder if the Tasmania bulletin was planned to look similar as this since it was meant to be a new studio.
I presume Nine will use their studio for reports during bulletins, and live crosses to Canberra.
In addition to Afternoon Briefing, ABC also uses their studio for nightly reports, as well as live crosses for the News Channel, and occasionally they do full bulletins from their during. ABC also uses their studio for parliamentary coverage (i.e. analysis of press club), and 7.30 whenever Laura Tingle or David Speers hosts, or if Sarah Ferguson is presenting from Canberra.
Nine now has a big space given they have TV, Radio and Print. As for Seven it is possible they have a decent space, but only have a screen plonked in the middle with a camera.
