Nine News Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

With Today having Nine News inspired graphics, will they be relaunching when Nine News recieves its own relaunch? And yes I know Today only got them this year but only asking cause they are similar to the current Nine News graphics.

Yes, based on yearly average Mon-Fri

Are Nine using “TV event of the year” in their promos? If not they are missing an opportunity because for once it might be correct, at least for WA.

Family feud beats 9 most week nights in perth

I think the bean counters at Nine would discount the NNSW service area because of the overlap areas of the Central Coast and Gold Coast (especially as Nine already have a targeted news service there) with a total ovelap of 745,000. That brings the exclusive NBN number below Adelaide, Perth and Queensland. The Adelaide and Perth bulletins are also seen in regional areas.

Simpsons repeats used to beat Nine News in Perth. The ratings in Perth have been a disaster for so long the bulletin should have been axed years ago.

Hopefully this new set is the start of a ratings improvement. If only they poached Rick and Sue to go with this new set. That would have guaranteed ratings success.

I think even Ten News at 6 (some nights during the week) use to beat Nine news in Perth (2011)

However that is not how it works. You don’t subtract the overlap from the NNSW market anymore than you subtract the overlap from the SYD market. Both markets sell advertising to all people.

Regardless, NNSW booked more ad revenue in 2015 than PER and ADL - it generates more revenue than either market.

NNSW is the #4 market.

Nah Adelaide studio is tiny and has pillars in the way.

A couple of weeks? These kind of things can be turned around in a weekend. It’s all made off site then put together in a day.

Earlier this year, Seven News Sydney was presented in front of a green screen for about a week while their old set was pulled down in favour of the new one. And yes, I know that’s a bit of a different situation since Seven Sydney only have one studio at Martin Place compared to Nine’s three at Willoughby.

Knowing that the new Nine News Sydney set will most likely be larger than the current/old one (probably taking up a majority of the floorspace in Studio 1, if it’s anything like what Perth is getting), it genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if they actually had to present the bulletin from a temporary set in Studio 3 for a couple of weeks!

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see over the coming weeks

7News Sydney and sunrise were out of Martin place because the whole “studio” was getting a new fit out.
The old beach floor had to be ripped up, lighting upgrades etc. it wasn’t just for the set.

Also a comparison to 9News Syd and 7NEWS Syd backdrops. Nines looks horribly dark and depressing IMO.

Yeah, fair point.

It’ll be very interesting to see what happens with the liveshot when the set gets upgraded. Personally, I really hope that Nine will upgrade it to a HD one!

Seven’s back drop also looks a bit blurry compared to Nine’s

Nine News Perth was always going to struggle, Too many presenter changes over the years especially the mass departures around the WIN era didn’t help things. They just need to stick with Tim and Emmy.

The issue was with Sunraysia’s stupid decision to show Coronation Street at 5:30pm back in 2005/2006 where many viewers switched over to Seven and since then it’s been low.

Now that Nine News Perth has the most modern set in the country, new HD facilities and a new studio and automation, they are now set for the next couple years and now can focus on trying to increase viewer numbers and hope that both Rick and Sue will retire soon.

Another idea could be to move Nine News Perth to 5pm and compete with Ten News if it’s too hard to compete with Seven News. Nine News tends to do better in Summer months anyway due to Cricket. STW Nine Perth is now under the best ownership and now can leave the old days behind now.

Nine have been trying a number of things to improve their news results. I would have thought that the increased local bulletins would have been their biggest advantage over Seven. However, the numbers have not improved. At the end of this week they are further behind the other bulletins than at the same point last year.

Seen an ad that they going to auction some equipment off via a popular auction site starting Thursday with inspections on Saturday. Might be interesting to visit and see the old studios for the last time if they allow you through.
