Nine News Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

AEDT or AEST?:rofl::rofl::rofl: My current obsession/irritation

I’d be inclined to see ‘today’ in summer months and ‘tonight’ in winter months probably. Same with Good Afternoon/good evening.

I wonder whether 2020 will be the year we see one of the networks launch a news channel or OTT service, they seem to be the flavour of the month in the US, NBC News Now, ABC News Live, CBSN. I think with all the news Nine produces, they would be well equipped to launch one here in Australia. Below an example of the recently launched ABC News Live Prime.

Sydney 4pm had a standing element today

I may be a bit late since it’s been about a week since I last checked, but regional social pages are now updated to the new graphics!
I would have some suggestions for them.
I think adding in the other two presenters and the refion image like the metro bulletins would improve these as right now they seem a bit generic.

5pm News:

Sydney News - looks like Georgie has gone back to doing the headlines recap seated at the desk rather than standing at the screen:

They are also inconsistent with doing the cold open. For example, Thursday started with just the headlines before the lead story.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Georgie Gardner going back to seated presentation of the Headline Recap is a permanent thing though - she only did it standing for a weekend or two last time.

Call me a traditionalist but personally I think the Opening Wideshot and the presenter saying “Good Evening” should be the very first moments we’re seeing their face on-screen during the bulletin.

There’s a reason why Seven News Sydney (and if I’m not mistaken, 10 News First Sydney) have moved away from having the presenters on-screen from the very start of the bulletin, so you should too Nine!

I liked how 7 and 10 News Sydney did their piece-to-camera for the headlines. Not a fan of Nine’s brief appearance, though to be honest, and would prefer if they reverted it back by dropping the cold open.

Unless those very first words when the presenters are on-screen at the start of the bulletin are “Good Evening I’m Georgie Gardner and this is Nine News. Tonight…” then I think it’s for the best that we only hear and not see the newsreaders for the Opening Headlines - especially on Nine where their current theme music is such a “sacred cow” it’s unlikely to ever be changed/updated in any significant way.

Absolutely love the skyline background tonight. /s

If it were a static shot, people would complain about how fake it looks because it doesn’t match the weather outside. How do you win?

Well, what do we have here!

Also while I’m at it, this is probably the first major joint Nine News/2GB competition tie-in since the merger of Nine and Macquarie Radio?

NBN making sure they stick their mic flag up high enough to be seen on Nine News?

Do we expect to see a refreshed 9news.com.au website? Surely an updated logo would be suffice.

Old graphics just appeared in Brisbane for a severe weather warning:

Found some photos of 9 News Perth in the years they were leading in the ratings which obviously was a long time ago. A couple familiar faces there thats for sure.

Looks much better than their regular setup for the early news.
