Nine News Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

I’m referring to the decent version with Waley

The article as originally posted by TV Tonight didn’t indicate Nine doing a national afternoon bulletin was only happening during Summer. Hence why there was a bit of hype/speculation before the article was clarified

Thought that earlier today with the NNN announcement.

Today is November 24. There’s very little doubt that Mike Dalton will be the red hot favourite to file the all important “Santa’s Journey” reports on December 24!

But before we look forward to 30 nights from now, it’s to my understanding that Tuesday November 26 will be an exciting one for about 5000 kids with the top hat-wearing heart again holding their annual Christmas party at Darling Harbour. Two important questions come to mind about that event…

#1: Like he did last year, are we expecting to see Dalts filing reports from the ICC on Tuesday afternoon/evening?
#2: If the answer to the above question is yes, then how is he going to top last year’s effort of sliding with the St George Dragon and being comforted by Happy and/or Healthy Harold in the “Lost Children” section? That was an absolute classic! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The answer to Question #1 is yes:

As for #2, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see tonight because Nine usually saves “Dalts Report Gold” for the 6pm version of events compared to the piece shown during the afternoon bulletins!

As a viewer and employee, afternoon news doesn’t affect me.

Most people are working until 5:00pm or later usually and I much rather watch the 6:00pm bulletins.

Well as it turns out, Dalts didn’t quite reach the highs of last year’s Variety Christmas Party report - but the coverage was still pretty good nonetheless:

For me, the highlight was seeing Dalts interacting with some of the many kids on-camera and (unless coverage from Seven or Ten hasn’t been posted yet - I checked the relevant Twitter feeds and didn’t see any) that Nine were actually there to cover the event.

Are you planning to document this every day until Christmas? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Of course not.

I only make online commentary on some of Mike Dalton’s reports - chose to look at the Variety Christmas Party coverage based on last year’s.

I can’t stand him. It’s nonsense. He’s so cringe.

It’s a refreshing change from all the serious reports you see on the news.
But obviously you don’t want too many of them.

He does them well, as does Melbourne’s Allan Raskall.

Nine claiming the year in Melbourne with a memo to staff:

As new sponsor billboard for Nine News for just the start of summer.

PS: Don’t understand why Holden got rid of their original version that included the song “My House” from YouTube.

Considering the narrow margin (for the weekday bulletin), that might not be the case after consolidated figures are factored in

The problem with Nine’s claim is that in previous years they have claimed victory based on weeks won (rather than average audience across the years).

And this year Seven won more weeks than Nine in Melbourne.

Nine would do anything to claim a victory in any market whether it’s weeks won or average audience.

Local afternoon news continues in Sydney… Interesting since TV Tonight reported National edition over Summer?

With Tipping Point screening at 3pm this afternoon thought it would come into line with that.
