Nine Network - Programs and Schedules

Sometimes play does go well beyond midnight eastern though, I remember I think it was 2019 and one of Bec Maddern’s first appearances on the telecast (that year Bracey was doing mornings), a match went until 2 or 3am in the morning, so would’ve been 11pm or midnight in Perth! And she stayed hosting all that time.

A change to Nine’s schedule tonight, going by the changed EPG (Sydney):
6.00: News
7.00: A Current Affair
7.30: Nine’s Summer of Tennis (parts of the Adelaide International Final between Thanasi Kokkinakis and Arthur Rinderknech)
9.00: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (movie)
11.00: The Hunt for Red October (movie)

David Attenborough’s The Green Planet

Coming Soon

SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH’S NEWEST DOCUMENTARY, THE GREEN PLANET - COMING SOON TO CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW

Plants live secret, unseen lives. But they are as aggressive, competitive and dramatic as animals - locked in life-and-death struggles for food and light, taking part in fierce battles for territory, and desperately trying to reproduce and scatter their young. Using pioneering new filmmaking technology and the very latest science, The Green Planet reveals this strange and wonderful world of plants like never before.

Made by BBC Studios’ world-renowned Natural History Unit, the series sees Sir David travel across the globe, from the USA to Costa Rica, Croatia to northern Europe. From deserts to water worlds, from tropical forests to the frozen north, David finds brand new stories and gains a fresh understanding of how plants live their lives. He meets the largest living things that have ever existed; trees that care for each other; plants that hunt animals and a plant with most vicious defenses in the world.

Twenty-six years after The Private Life of Plants aired on BBC One, we see how science and technologies have advanced, and how our understanding of the ways in which plants behave and interact has evolved. The series is also a great passion project for Sir David Attenborough - airing at a critical moment, just as our green world stands on the brink of collapse.

Pioneering motion-control robotics systems allow us to take a magical journey into the world of plants, in real time and in time-lapse, to watch their lives on their timescale and from their perspective. Thermal cameras, macro frame-stacking to give incredible depth-of-field, ultra-high-speed cameras and the latest developments in microscopy all allow us to reveal a fresh view of the lives of plants and their incredible beauty.

Plants don’t act alone, they forge intimate relationships, as friends and enemies, with other plants, animals and even with humans. The more we understand them the more we realise that they do things we previously thought of as ‘animal behaviour’. They count, they hunt, they deceive, they communicate, they protect their relatives and they manipulate animals for their own ends. Contrary to how it may appear, when plants and animals interact, the plant is usually in charge.

Filmed around the world, The Green Planet will be the first immersive portrayal of an unseen, inter-connected world.

I think Nine should consider taking tennis off the main channel from 3pm to 6pm, and air Tipping Point, Afternoon News and Hot Seat as normal.

Look what’s happened to their 6pm news ratings this week because of the tennis lead-in.

Hello SA

From Sunday 30 January at 5:30pm

Lauren visits eco-friendly accommodation north of Adelaide; Hayley makes some furry friends; Tom discovers a new venue in the city that has food and drinks sorted; one of the most picturesque places to kayak in SA.

This is the replacement for South Aussie With Cosi who is switching to Seven.

With both Hayley and Lauren on this show I wonder if Adelaidy will be merged with this show or will continue separately.

Sounds pretty good on paper. Hopefully they can add some local personalities on this show in the long term, like Poh or Maggie Beer.

La Brea starts Monday February 7.

Friday 4 February at 7.30pm

Explore the wondrous world of plants

THE SECRETS OF THEIR EXISTENCE AND UNTOUCHED BEAUTY UNEARTHED

Plunge into the amazingly unpredictable, unseen world of plants with Sir David Attenborough in The Green Planet, premiering Friday, February 4, at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Plants are the world’s dominant life form, yet we’ve barely scratched the surface in knowing what their existence truly looks like – until now. In The Green Planet, Sir David Attenborough shows us the extraordinary world of plants like never before, revealing behavioural traits not too dissimilar to those of humans.

From Croatia to Costa Rica, Australia to Venezuela, China to South Africa, this stunning series journeys deep into vastly different landscapes around the planet, the plants that are unique to these regions, and their struggle to survive in an ever-changing climate, threatened by extreme weather and encroaching humanisation.

We explore hostile desert terrain where Sir David finds a flower resembling a hairy starfish that smells like rotting flesh; hidden underwater worlds where the most beautiful plants eat animals alive; densely populated tropical forests where plants fight for sunlight; and remarkable living bridges formed by the roots of rubber fig trees in India.

Pioneering technology such as thermal cameras, motion-control robotics, ultra-high-speed cameras, advanced microscopy, and the latest developments in science allow us to peer into the mysterious day-to-day lives of plants in real time, from fresh perspectives.

We discover incredible facts about plants: they are cunning, they hunt, they’re territorial, and they will even kill animals for food or defence. Yet while they might sound vicious, some plants actually care for each other, protect their “relatives” from predators, and create bonds with wildlife.

Sir David says: “We can all work with plants to help make our world greener and a little wilder. If we do this, our future on this planet will be safer and healthier, and in my experience at least, we will also be happier. Plants, after all, are our greatest allies.”

In a time when the environment is in turmoil, The Green Planet is another display of Sir David Attenborough’s unending passion for the natural world, and an awakening to the beauty we stand to lose if humanity fails to act against climate change.

Nine News started at 6.41pm in Melbourne/Sydney tonight, due to the Men’s Wheelchair Tennis Final continuing past 6.00pm on the main channel.

The News bulletin finished at 7.11pm.
