Also, the BCC Carols website notes that an Auslan interpreted version of the program will be available on 9Now following the TV broadcast.
Melbourne City Council announced details of the 2024 New Year’s Eve fireworks display today, with a special ‘All that sparkles’ theme.
The eight-minute midnight moment will be on display anywhere you can see the city skyline – accompanied by a choreographed soundtrack produced in partnership with Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren.

Is she just phoning it in now?
I think Delta had recorded several performances in Los Angeles for this year’s special.
It will be shown as a two-hour highlights special on Nine tomorrow (December 7) at 2pm.

10:30 PM Captivated Series Premiere
As seen on 9Now
When it seems too good to be true. It probably is…
Captivated follows the story of a young, single mother Rachel and her young son Liam. They’re on the poverty line, but she works all hours of the day as a cleaner to give him the best life she can. One day, her boss at the cleaning firm is approached by a businesswoman who says she’s acting for an extremely wealthy client called Elliot. Her client has observed Rachel working at a hotel where he’s a regular guest and she asks if Rachel can clean for him exclusively. Better pay, less hours – it sounds too good to be true.
Gradually Elliot’s behaviour towards Rachel and Liam becomes increasingly controlling. When suspicions are raised, Rachel starts to dig into his past, uncovering a dark and disturbing story from his childhood that explains his obsession with them. What ensues is a nail-biting thriller that asks the question: how far would you go to repair your past?

Nine did a year in review special in 2018, hosted by Scott Cam and Lelia McKinnon, presented on top of the Gatwick Hotel in Melbourne, the sight of that year’s season of The Block.
I didn’t realise that the last “Year That Was” was in 2018. Thought it would be more regular.
Seven also has a year in review show this Thursday. So Nine decided to air one too? I guess.
LORD MAYOR’S CHRISTMAS CAROLS
IGNITE THE FESTIVE SEASON
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, AT 7.00PM ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW
QUEENSLAND
Celebrate the festive spirit with the spectacular broadcast of the annual Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols as they light up the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens at Riverstage on Friday, December 13, at 7.00pm AEST on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Following 9News Queensland’s leading 6.00pm news bulletin, presenter Melissa Downes will bring the Christmas magic to Queenslanders across the state in an exclusive broadcast of the Carols.
Returning to lead a dazzling night of Christmas cheer, carols and celebrations is the fabulous Naomi Price, who is joined by headlining stars, powerhouse vocalist Conrad Sewell, the soulful Ngaiire, and legendary singer-songwriter Josh Pyke.
The charming children’s ensemble, The Mistle Toes, will delight audiences again this year, alongside the Queensland Ballet, making their Carols debut.
Adding to the entertainment are world-renowned jazz singer Emma Pask, captivating vocalist Fatai, Brisbane’s own Luke Kennedy, musical theatre star Andy Cook, Irish folk band Amaidí, traditional Samoan dance group Tama Laei, remarkable deaf performer Shannon Kettleton and the Toowong State School Signing Choir.
Local First Nations talents Waveney Yasso and Kaylah Coghill, alongside Jess Hitchcock and Dean Brady, will also join in to celebrate the season with heartwarming performances.
The festive lineup continues with crowd favorites including The Jingle Belles, the Little Red Carols Quartet featuring Ally Long, Jade Delmiguez, Kristian Scott and Lachlan Dodd, the Little Red Carols Choir led by director Alex Van den Broek, and a live orchestra featuring String Source. Plus, no Christmas celebration is complete without a visit from the man in red himself.
The evening of great entertainment also presents an opportunity to support the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust, helping those in need across the community.
Melissa Downes said: “Christmas is such a special time, and being part of the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols is always a highlight for me – the energy is unbeatable.
"The Carols are a celebration that brings the community together and marks the joyful start of the holiday season. It’s the perfect way to embrace the spirit of Christmas with everyone watching at home.”
As the song goes, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, so be sure to join in for a fun- filled festive evening with the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols on Friday, December 13, at 7.00pm AEST, exclusively on Channel 9 and 9Now.
There will be a national encore broadcast on Christmas Eve at 8.00am AEST on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Judging by this press release, it sounds as if Melissa is hosting it from the city.
Is 9News QLD going to be an OB that night, similar to Riverfire, or is Absent Andrew going to come back and anchor the bulletin from the studios ![]()
It won’t be an OB, as the event was actually held last Saturday night and recorded and edited for broadcast this Friday.
Melissa usually hosts this one by herself.
Lord Mayors Christmas Carols air nationally at 8am on Christmas eve. Thats sounds unusual, dont you mean Christmas Day morning?
Yes it is Christmas Day - 8am, followed by CMA Country Christmas then Christmas with Delta and Carols by Candelight encore.
Christmas Eve is a normal line-up such as Today, Today Extra, etc
