Nine Network 2017

Wtf is nine honey?

9Honey is a new Nine-owned website primarily targeted towards women.

What a stupid name!

I agree, although probably no more or less stupid than some of their other new website names like 9Elsewhere (a travel siteā€¦I think) and 9Pickle (a Buzzfeed-style site).

Looks like Unreal Estate and Hyde & Seek are gone from the 2017 slateā€¦ excited about Family FF, I hope itā€™s as bitchy as Hot Plate.

Fitzy and Wippa have been dumped. Ouch.

Or perhaps came to their senses and ran as far from this as possible :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

They were talking about this on radio last week and joking about how they had not heard anything about it coming back so it must have been axed. Oops.

  1. Ah, so thatā€™s what else Bec Maddern is going to be used for (and possibly fill-in on Today). Odd choice, but who knowsā€¦

  2. In regards to Ch 9ā€™s 2017 ā€œUpfrontsā€, apart from a few (obvious) programs, I canā€™t see how itā€™s any better than their 2016 programming (if not worse) & we all know how Channel 9 have performed against their closest rival this year.

5 to 6pm weekday timeslot needs serious working on. So do Saturday nights. Also Thursdays (outside of Melbourne).

Three crucial points:

ā€¢Ninja Warrior will either be a massive success or a massive flop (I suspect the latter).

ā€¢Married At First Sight is having more episodes against My Kitchen Rules. Whether it takes viewers away from MKR or stops Married from potentially getting a massive audience will be interesting.

ā€¢Nine News, both nationally & Melbourne / Sydney, will it continue to decline and potentially lose one of those two key markets? Or not?

Highlights for Ch 9 (based on 2016):

ā€¢The Block (even though it everages below 1m)

ā€¢The Voice (however its declines are worrying & itā€™s only a short series)

ā€¢NRL / State of Origin

ā€¢Ashes cricket

ā€¢The Today Show (I could be wrong)

Just one thing, as long as Ch 9 try as hard as possible not to have a WORSE year (rarings share margin) as 2016 :+1:

Sounds like a porn site

It certainly explains why the home automation system in The Block was called Honey and why that word needed to be repeated a thousand times every episode for the week. More subliminal advertising of a product not even announced yet!

Nineā€™s upfronts were exactly greeted with enthusiasm by [News Corp] (http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/national/seal-returns-to-the-voice-as-channel-nine-reveal-programming-for-2017-karl-stefanovic-to-have-more-duties/news-story/ab87c951ec39daf94dc6d2f4e8a6bfba) in this article .

Most of the report centred on the return of Seal as a judge on The Voice ā€œThree years after ā€¦[he]ā€¦ publicly took to Twitter to state he ā€œcanā€™t waitā€ to leave the countryā€.

Another interesting comment was ā€œIn one of the more bizarre moments of the day, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reality star Yolanda Hadid compared her battle with Lyme disease to HIV.ā€ It then went on to compare the 35 million deaths from HIV-AIDS with 144 from lime disease! ouch.

It also revealed Karl Stefanovic will take a break from any 60 Minutes stories. ā€œPreviously what weā€™ve done with Karl is that he has often shot 60 Minutes stories over the summer,ā€ Nine News boss Darren Wick said. ā€œWe donā€™t want him doing that this year ā€” just have a break."

This one gave a better overview.

WHAT do Chopper Read, Sophie Monk, Karl Stefanovic and Seal have in common? Theyā€™re all soldiers in Channel Nineā€™s beefed up army, as the number two network outlined its programming slate for 2017 at a star-studded event in Sydney on Tuesday.

Nine has delivered! Iā€™m so glad they saved the best for last.

Family Food Fight is going to be an absolute winner. Iā€™m so glad an Australian network has finally created a cooking show with a relatable take on food. Watching My Kitchen Rules was like watching a cooking show in Hindu. Iā€™m so glad Everyday Gourmet & Benā€™s Menu can be dumped for something more relatable. Materchef has always been too high concept as well so Iā€™m glad I can now watch a cooking show that wonā€™t give me a headache.

Iā€™m so glad I get to see more of Karl. Seeing him five mornings a week is just never enough. This Time Next Year will just be a fleeting afterthought that failed to rate this time next year.

Just when I was getting worried they hadnā€™t copied another format and tried to pass it off as original, here comes Last Resort. Thanks Nine for restoring my faith in you.

My personal favourite that Iā€™m really looking forward to is accidental heroes. Because what Australia really needs is another Funniest Home Videos and Nineā€™s own answer to Animals that make you LOL.

Michael Stephenson said the 2017 plan would give Nine ā€œa solid schedule of Australian content at 7.30pm for the entire year, as well as more than 50 hours of drama at 8.30pm across the year.ā€

So Michael Stephenson clearly intends international dramas to make up the shortfall of Australian drama then.

House of Bond 2x90 minutes
House Husbands 10x60 minutes
Doctor Doctor 10x60 minutes???
Love Child 10x60 minutes???
Underbelly Files: Chopper 1x90 minute???

So whereā€™s the embarrassment of riches Nine touted when it comes to home grown drama? I doubt they would be adding many more series towards the end.

Good luck Nine on coming second yet again. Thereā€™s way too many turkeys in there for a ratings winner.

Whatā€™s Warne doing?

Perhaps fitzy and wippa are unavailable as they may be the ones filming tens new talk show pilot?!?!

They already did a pilot for a chat show last year. It was awful. Maybe not as bad as Jackie Oā€™s forays into television but close. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Was the first thing I thought too when new hosts were announced, I didnā€™t think it was all that bad but I wouldnā€™t be upset if they tested somebody else.

Nine create? They havenā€™t created anything. They just copy what seems to be working elsewhere.

The people charged with coming up with programming ideas at Nine are lazy and overpaid. A quick Google search of hot food formats revealed this one was doing the rounds. I even suggested nine days ago that the BBCā€™s replacement for Great British Bake Off was a possibility for Nine when it was suggested another reality cooking format was in the offing. When was the last time Nine was innovative and created anything?
