Nine (NBN)

Silly move by Nine in my opinion. While NBN News is far from perfect WIN would be even sillier to mess with it but they probably will

Nine has owned NBN since 2007.

The way I read this is that NBN is valued at $21 million? A far cry from the $250 mil Nine paid as PBL 19 years ago.

Welcome to the WIN Network IDs and bye bye Big Dog. Will probably see news moved to 5.30 at some point too.

Shocked to see 9 sell NBN to Win, did not expect that. Hopefully NBN can keep the news the same. You’d think down the track they’d own it again with a merger with WIN.

At least this time viewers won’t have to put up with mappy

But yes, did not see this coming at all.

Bruce finally get his hands on NBN. Soul Patts still laughing selling it for $250 mil years ago.

They would be stupid to mess with what’s working at the moment, but hey, it’s Bruce and WIN. The Donald Trump of Australian television.

Wow this is a big move.
As others have mentioned you wonder how this will affect NBN News.
Perhaps WIN may see this as an opportunity to update/refresh their news offering and broadcast some of their other NSW bulletins from NNSW as part of a composite 6pm bulletin?

Fat chance

Good idea, but I think WIN will want to run the same format everywhere on the eastern seaboard.

Unfortunately I doubt it. Not likely to be any more room/time to do stuff for the rest of the WIN network since NBN downsized into town.

If WIN mess with NBN News (will they change the name even?) could be the time for 7 to strike and relaunch a bulletin into Newcastle..

I would have thought buying WIN would have been a more likely outcome - at a time when their competition has brought the regionals in-house its an interesting decision to distance themselves

This will kill off NBN

I can see one of 3 things happening:

  1. No change at all
  2. NBN follow in line with the rest of the WIN network, a shonky 5:30 bulletin, hopefully not broadcasted out of Wollongong.
  3. NBN becoming the main hub for news.

I wonder if the uslity will increase or drop with this move, will NBN get updated graphics packages from Nine?

Doubt it since it still has to rely on a remote control room at a different location, and I doubt WIN are willing to invest in the links needed at one of it’s studios.

Agree, and I doubt the NBN facility would be big enough to accommodate that many bulletins.

It’s a sad day

Edit: I forgot about Darwin. Fixed!

Just merge with WIN FFS! It’s going to happen. Just do it.

Seems like a bit of a slap in the face to the very loyal NNSW regional audience. Seems to show what Nine think about the audience outside of the metro markets.

Isn’t this a good thing? I know NBN is no longer, but it gives longevity to WIN - the last regional television broadcaster left standing. Unless you count Imparja I suppose.

I doubt Nine gives a shit about any audience anywhere. As long as you watch like good little sheep, subscribes to the SMH/Age and Stan like good little sheep, pay your money, that’s all that matters.

WIN would do well not to fuck around with what works for NBN. But I doubt they’ll leave well enough alone.

The only relief is when Bruce dies, and if the Gordon family sells the company to someone who gives a crap about decent levels of regional news coverage. But I cannot see that happening.

Surely this will mean that WIN can no longer do Ten’s NNSW news updates too

What will become of Natasha Beyersdorf?
