It’s probably how much they estimate it would cost to run their own separate national sales team.
$2.5 million would probably pay for about 30 staff (assume $80k pp).
I can’t imagine a “national” sales team for 9NBN having that many staff.
The last PRG before a network news bulletin has a “Next - Nine News” super, but the bulletin itself still has the NBN logo coverup.
Across 5 offices (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) that’s 6 staff per location.
Granted it does seem high still, even once you take into account other operating costs, but it’s the only logical way I can see them coming up with that figure. No doubt they’ve been a bit creative with the figures to make it sound better.
the signposts last night also said “10.00 Nine News”

I wonder if 9NBN is moving playout or upgrading etc - the last few days we’ve seen:
The 6pm Sydney news intro for around 10 seconds before it cut to a 5 second football promo plus signpost before NBN News commenced.
Yesterday a Sydney news update ran almost its entire length during the afternoon movie.
Maybe it’s a subliminal way to bring the 9NEWS brand into NNSW?
That’s interesting re the news glitches…
I doubt they are deliberate mistakes as such, but something like accidentally airing the first 10 secs of the 6pm Sydney bulletin has never happened before.
But yes, sounds to me like changes are already being made to playout in preparation for the move to Frenchs Forest.
…
And given the SCA press releases regarding their intentions re Nine, it will be interesting to see how closely aligned the implementation of Nine here is compared to what SCA does.
yeah we sometimes got the first second or so in the past few years as they drop out of network into local feeds, but this was a full 7-10 seconds.
also the thing about yesterday’s news update error - it really sounded like former NBN reporter and now Nine Brisbane reporter Nat Wallace doing the VO, so I wonder if NBN was on Queensland’s feed?
post whore - also when you watch the 9NEWS afternoon edition, sometimes NBN drops out around 1-2 seconds early for their local news update, so you see the presenter say “and now here’s what’s happening in tonight’s news at 6” and we get occasionally “and now here’s what’s happening in ton…” cut.
That used to happen when Nine Adelaide was owned by WIN. We never received the updates, but went straight to a commercial break. But sometimes the commercial would cut the presenter off
no NBN logo next to the Nine logo on the footy show tonight
I noticed that too, sometimes it WAS there, other times it wasn’t.
Nine again had an issue with the ‘HD’ part of the watermark looking a bit pixelated at the top (see Watermark thread for example) during The Footy Show, but this wasn’t affecting 9HD on 9NBN.
I’ve been visiting my parents in Newcastle for the last week and the little “NBN” logo next to the Nine logo is back on regular programming.
My tv doesn’t have MPEG4 compatibility on my tvs. So I haven’t watched HD at my place so I just get the little NBN logo in the corner next to the Nine one. You notice in some promos they’ll include the little NBN logo next to the Nine one. Also notice that it may move outward or inward and the NBN one doesn’t move
I think the 9 logo is inserted at the network playout feed from Sydney for NBN, and the NBN logo is added in at the Newcastle local playout stage. That would explain why the NBN one doesn’t move with the 9 one.
The HD logo sits above the NBN one and I THINK is added in from Sydney too.
I think NBN adds the HD in as the HD part of the watermark times in better than the O&O stations (after a PRG instead of mid way through).
I thought that too but when you watch NBN-controlled program blocks, such as Nine Presents which they sometimes screen before Ellen, the Nine, HD and NBN watermark appears differently than what it normally does, and the “NBN” part is a different font or maybe not in bold. It’s really hard to explain.
before the football just went to a break it played the sponsorship billboard within the program itself (With 9 logo still on screen)
Then when the commercial break started NBN had it’s own billboards queued up.
So we strangely got 2 sponsorship billboard segments.
