Guys, Nev got confused. Better toss out fifty odd years of television heritage so the poor old bugger can complain about his internet on the correct Facebook page.
When your TV heritage is limited to a name and a news bulletin, is it really worth salvaging?
Youâd be surprised how some people feel about a brand. Just look at how long it took Woolies to rebrand Safeway - they were worried it would lead to a customer backlash.
Itâs already taken NEC nearly 10 years to get around to rebranding NBN.
Iâm just surprised itâs taken this long.
Many other regional TV brands disappeared long ago.
Surely NBNâs current loyal audience would continue to support itâs news service and the station generally if and most likely when they fully rebrand to Nine?
That said, I can understand why itâs taken so long for Nine to actually rebrand itâs Northern NSW TV operations. Unlike the capital cities (where the likes of TCN, GTV, QTQ and so on have always called âChannel Nineâ to some extent), NBN has traditionally been a bit more independent from the main metropolitan network and maintained a strong local identity with the NBN name/callsign until fairly recently.
Yep and we all know how well Woolworths are doing at the moment!
Yes, I agree that a rebrand is unlikely to have a major impact on news or other ratings⌠Their news is watched in Newcastle because itâs the only local bulletin in town.
I guess the reason for not rebranding sooner has been to do with structures. Whilst NEC has owned NBN since 2007, they chose not to integrate into the network at the time, thus leaving it as a virtually an independent company - I do remember reading that NEC only discovered the complexities of regional TV AFTER paying $250 mil for it!

Correct, it was always run as an affiliate even though it was owned by the network. Now it is being run like an O&O station (in fact run by the same lady who runs QTQ) The branding still needs to catch up - but we will continue to see more behind the scenes and on screen changes until itâs as Nine-eque as QTQ or TCN, is my guess.
More NBN stuff
It seems the voice of NBN Kevin Kellaway is reduced to doing lineups only. I couldnât find anything else
I canât believe that NBN are still using the old style WWOS Sponsor Billboard that hasnât been used on Nine for three years nowâŚeven the old 2009-12 Sponsor Billboard music (which Iâm pretty sure has since been phased out from Nine Sponsor Billboards, even ones for things like Friday Night Football) as well!
Although Iâm pretty sure that itâs another local voiceover artist/radio personality who did that billboard (and the Lineups while Kev is away) - Bob Peters!
WIN are still using the original GO! Sponsor billboards (with the original logo and the Sharon Muscat song), so itâs not that outrageous!
Is it just me or has NBN News just started broadcasting in HD.
It looks very sharp tonight. Specially the NBN NEWS watermark which used to be blurry
Oh and they have new fancy HD stingers
itâs just you - upconverted still!
I think that NBN would wait until fully rebranding to Nine News before worrying about HD news production. Besides, Nine News Queensland (news service of the other station that NBNâs general manager does business at) is still in SD for now as well!
Also, I wonder if they would officially keep the NBN callsign once a rebrand to Nine happens or just change it to NNN or something for internal/official ACMA use?
NBN will always officially be the callsign, that wonât change.
They are now using 9News graphics!! But still named NBN. Those graphics were used in tonightâs opener too.
Yes, this started on Monday⌠See âNBN Newsâ thread for more info.
When is NBN going to update their website to match the on air branding?
Itâs still using the previous NBN logo, rather than the Nine/NBN one that appears on air for everything except news.
I guess itâs just another example of inconsistent branding from NBN.
Same can be said about their news. Why bother introducing a new news intro and package at all and incorporate your old logo. Something like what @Moe mocked up should have been done.
Hereâs an out there idea, what if the powers that be at NEC decide to keep the NBN name just for the news, even when they phase out the 9NBN branding thatâs used elsewhere.
This would be like how ITVâs local news broadcasts throughout its legacy regions have retained (largely) their pre-ITV plc names, eg Granada Reports.
