We just got the first “All New Big Bang, 7.30 tonight on Nine” with the 9nbn logo.

First of all, 9HD via NBN looks REALLY good… Every bit as crisp as via TCN Sydney.

But the branding is still a mess…

  • Promo with Nine ID on the Voiceover and the prominent logo, with the small NBN one beside it (tick)
  • Which was followed immediately by an old style “NBN Welcome Home” ID (cross)
  • Inconsistent EPG labelling ie. “NBN Newcastle” on SD, but “9HD Newcastle” on HD (same also for Central Caoast (cross)
  • Inconsistent logo cover up - looks like we are still going to get the cover up on Nine News, but not other programs (cross)

But then NBN have never really been good at branding. I still remember the 2006 debacle whereby the network had moved 100% to the box logo, which NBN also had, but they still kept using the dotted logo on their news for another 2 months.

Hopefully these are just kinks in the transition and will get ironed out shortly.

Wonder if SD will remain the same all day with the small crushed NBN to the side of the nine… Surely just drop the NBN altogether would be the better solution. Just rip the bandaid off.

Do you mean the normal nine logo with a little NBN attached next to it?

Don’t wish away your TV heritage here. We lost our regions here in the UK 15-20 years ago and you don’t know what you’re missing until they’re gone.

What heritage? It was already lost 30+ years ago. They are just carbon copies of the metro networks now anyway.

sure, but you don’t have a big corporate internet conglomerate come in and take your identity - like the National Broadband Network (NBN) is with NBN Television… sooner or later the “NBN” is going to be known as the broadband only, not the TV network servicing 4 or so million people

So, with normal programming back on now.
Is 9NBN just showing the 9 watermark by itself during programming? Or are they using the one with the little NBN written next to it?
